6/2/23 5:30 am CT Good morning, Tiger Fans, LSU baseball’s road to Omaha begins this evening in Alex Box Stadium when the Tigers (43-15) take on Tulane (19-40) at 2 p.m. CT in the opening round of the Baton Rouge NCAA Regional. The game will air on ESPNU and stream on ESPN+. It can also be heard on the LSU Sports Radio Network and online at LSUSports.net/live, and I’ll be tweeting score updates and occasional comments for those who follow DandyDonLSU on Twitter.  The Tigers are looking to return to Omaha for the first time since 2017, but coach Jay Johnson knows better than to l ..read more

6/1/23 5:50 am CT Good morning, Tiger Fans, LSU’s path to Omaha begins tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. when the Tigers battle Tulane in the Baton Rouge Regional at Alex Box Stadium. I know from my emails that many of you who work normal business hours aren’t happy about the start time. I certainly get where you’re coming from, even if I do understand the advantages. The biggest is that it usually gives the team more rest between its first and second games. It also often means you’re not waiting around for another game to finish, and it gives you a better chance of getting your game in when there ..read more

5/31/23 5:30 am CT Good morning, Tiger Fans, Excitement for this weekend’s NCAA Baseball Regional in Baton Rouge is reaching a fever pitch, which makes this a good time to look at how LSU and its regional opponents compare statistically. We’ll begin today’s daily dose there, and then move from the diamond to the gridiron for a bit of news and the continuation of our Countdown to Game Day. Here we go… BATON ROUGE REGIONAL — TEAM STATISTICS RPI: LSU: 5Oregon State: 37 Sam Houston State: 70 Tulane: 157 If you’re going off of RPI alone, it’s easy to see that this is a favorable draw for No. 5 ..read more

5/30/23 5:30 am CT Good morning, Tiger Fans, For the first time since 2019, the LSU baseball team’s path to Omaha will run entirely through Baton Rouge, as the Tigers were named the No. 5 national seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. As one of the top eight national seeds, LSU is in line to play at Alex Box Stadium all the way through the Super Regional if they can first make it through a Regional consisting of three familiar foes — Tulane, Sam Houston, and Oregon State. Folks, there’s a lot to like about this draw. Starting with Tulane, it’s always fun to beat the Greenwave, and the Tig ..read more

5/29/23 5:30 am CT Good morning, Tiger Fans, The Division I Baseball Committee released the 16 regional hosts for the NCAA Baseball Tournament, and for the first time ever, half of them will come from the SEC. The eight SEC teams include, in alphabetical order, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. 5/28/23 5:30 am CT Good morning, Tiger Fans, That first Sunday of spring without an LSU baseball game to recap always feels strange. Since that’s where we find ourselves today after LSU was ousted from the SEC Tournament on Friday, we’ll use this time to look back at the good, the bad and the ugly of LSU’s time in Hoover. After that, the continuation of our countdown to the start of LSU football and a few closing tidbits. Here we go… The Good The best thing to come out of the SEC Tournament is that LSU’s pitching staff has progressed. Thatcher Hurd and Ty Floyd each threw five strong innings a ..read more

5/27/23 5:30 am CT Good morning, Tiger Fans, Missed opportunities sent LSU packing, as the Tigers lost 5-4 to Texas A&M in yesterday’s SEC Tournament elimination match. With the loss, LSU now awaits confirmation that it will host a regional in the NCAA Tournament — hopefully as a Top 8 National Seed — when the seedings are announced on Monday. LSU jumped out to a 3-1 lead before its bullpen gave up four runs in the seventh inning, allowing the Aggies to go on top, 5-3. But make no mistake about it; the bullpen doesn’t deserve the blame for this loss — at least not all of it. This time ..read more

5/26/23 5:30 am CT Good morning, Tiger Fans, Despite an encouraging relief appearance from Riley Cooper, the Tigers couldn’t  overcome a disastrous fourth inning in a 5-4 loss to Arkansas. LSU led 2-0 after opening the scoring on three consecutive two-out hits in the first inning and plating another run three innings later on a hit and wild pitch. Then the proverbial wheels fell off in a bizarre bottom of the fourth.  The fourth-inning trouble began when Paul Skenes, who had cruised through the first three innings without allowing a run, hit the leadoff batter and then gave up three ..read more

5/25/23 5:30 am CT Good morning, Tiger Fans, Good pitching, error-free defense and timely hitting added up to an encouraging day on the diamond, as LSU opened SEC Tournament play with a 10-3 win over South Carolina in Hoover, Alabama. With the win, No. 3 seed LSU advances to face No. 2 seed Arkansas today at 4:30 p.m. CT. The Razorbacks earned the right to face LSU today with a 6-5 win over Texas A&M. We wrote yesterday that Thatcher Hurd’s continued emergence could be the single biggest key to LSU’s success in the postseason. If you agree, you have to feel great about what you saw yesterd ..read more

5/24/23 5:50 am CT Good morning, Tiger Fans, First, thanks to those of you who voted in yesterday’s poll asking whether Paul Skenes will surpass Ben McDonald’s record for the most single-season strikeouts in LSU history. With over 3,200 votes cast, roughly 60% of our voters predicted he would not reach that mark. To do so, Skenes would need to record 39 more punch-outs, which would require four more starts at his average of nearly 12 per game. Skenes won’t creep any closer to that record today, as LSU will send Thatcher Hurd to the mound when the Tigers open SEC Tournament play against So ..read more
