KORMARINE is a comprehensive shipbuilding and marineSTX Marine Services’ vessel, the Araon, provided assistance to an emergency patient in the Antarctic Ocean. The operation started on July 17th, after green methanol was successfully delivered to a container ship at Ulsan Port in Korea for the first time ever. The Danish shipping company Maerk has ordered the first of a total of 19 methanol-powered container ships from Hyundai Heavy Industries Group’s Hyundai Mipo Dockyard.

At the 80th Marine Environment Protection Committee (hereinafter referred to as MEPC) held in London from July 3rd to 7th, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted the ‘2023 Greenhouse Gas Reduction Strategy’, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality in international maritime by 2050.
The strategy replaces the previous goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% from total emissions in 2008 by 2050 with a phased target of reducing emissions by at least 20% by 2030 and at least 70% by 2040. The end goal is to have net zero emissions by the year 2050.

MADEX 2023, the International Maritime Defense Industry Exhibition, was held successfully in BEXCO, Busan, from June 7 to June 9. MADEX is Korea’s largest marine and defense industry exhibition, held every other year since 2001 and co-hosted by the Navy, Busan Metropolitan City, the Korea International Trade Association, and the Association of the ROK Navy.
