In February of 2021, Josh’s parents noticed he was getting very pale. What was originally thought to be a virus, turned to a bladder infection and slowly descended from there. Just a few days later, Josh started vomiting and losing his balance. He was taken straight to A and E, given a blood test and diagnosed with leukaemia just two days later. Josh’s family all found it incredibly hard when Josh became and wasn’t until a few weeks in to treatment that she started to realise just what the diagnosis was, what it meant for their family and how quickly life was going to change. What a whopper of a night –  Friday 20th May, our ambassador Isla’s mum Jill and family hosted a charity night, all in aid of Kidscan.Monton Sports Club was packed out and guests were treated to an unforgettable night! The evening began with an incredible performance from Lord of the Dance star violinist Richard Sanderson Xerri, who certainly got the party started, going from table to table entertaining everyone – it was brilliant! We want to say a huge thank you to Lee Mossop, former Captain of RFL Salford Red Devils, for all his support fundraising and at events throughout his testimonial year. Along with two other charities, Lee chose Kidscan to fundraise for during his final celebratory year at the club. He joined us for a Kidscan laboratory tour last year to meet with some of our researchers and Dr Dave Pye, to learn more about the essential work we do. Kidscan Children’s Cancer Research and North West Cancer Research are proud to announce joint funding of a £75k research grant specifically targeting childhood cancer. North West Cancer Research is a completely independent charity, dedicated to putting the region’s cancer needs first, by funding pioneering research and education to tackle the cause, improve the care and find the cure for cancer. Kidscan Children’s Cancer Research are supporting Sophie’s Legacy who are campaigning for improvements in childhood cancer care, treatments and for increased research funding. We are urging all of our supporters to join in the campaign by encouraging your local MP to attend an upcoming debate in the House of Commons. On the 26th September 2022, there will be a ‘Backbench Business Debate: Chilldhood Cancer Outcomes’ in the House of Commons. We like to keep you up to date with how our ambassadors are doing from time to time and one who has been part of Kidscan for many years is Emilie, she’s a fantastic fundraiser too! Aged just 2, Emilie was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer. With metastasis in both lungs, she needed intensive chemotherapy and a liver transplant.But fast forward to 2022 and Emilie has just celebrated her 9 year ‘liverversary’! A huge Thank You to the fantastic families of Manchester Freemasons Felicity Lodge, who held a Christmas party and raised vital funds for Kidscan!
