So I'm along the 40 degree parallel for reference. That pa to Nebraska corridor. We put in the red potatoes probably a few days before the last frost and they've done good. Starting to harvest about 30 sets. So it's just mid July and I feel like there's a good 70 to 90 days before the fall frosts. Usually late September early October for us. I'm a pretty new gardener so seeing what you can tell me about the rules of a second planting if I can find or start some more seed potatoes. I used... Mid summer potato planting ..read more

Update - sea post # 15....Milwaukee M18 Fuel Battery Power Chainsaw

Here's a first impressions review of my Milwaukee M18 Fuel Chainsaw. Having owned several gas chain saws over the years, and using them infrequently, they always gave me trouble. So when it came time to purchase a new saw I decided to try something different. As a quasi-survivalist I also appealed to me that I can charge the saw off a solar panel so the only expendable item is the bar oil. Bar oil doesn't go stale and two gallons of it would last me for years. The saw is also stupid... Update - sea post # 15....Milwaukee M18 Fuel Battery Power Chainsaw ..read more

It’s war on hornworms

So the evil hornworm empire launched a mass surprise attack yesterday. Did an overnight travel for work and came home to some tomato plant devastation. I pulled a hornworm off of nearly every single tomato plant. A couple plants won’t recover and have a fair amount (5% maybe) of tomatoes gnawed on. They waited until our defenses were down before initiating the onslaught. Mrs B and I regained the initiative this evening with the help of our platoon of hens as the strategic reserves. Now that... So it is supposed to be a squash plant. It has sprouted these bright green tentacle things. It has crept 2 pots over now. The photo shows it has wrapped around the strawberry plant. No idea where it is headed... I've had squash plant before and currently and they do not have these things. I know it is probably something common, but maybe it's an alien plant...lol ..read more

So I'm looking for advice my property in Southwest Texas it's full of rocks to boulders and full of mesquite and brush.I can't run a lawn mower for the fear of throwing rocks or smashing the blade on a large rock. So I have had to use a weed eater to trim around Main areas to keep the weeds down and not give mice, rats, ticks and snakes a place to hide. I have been told several times I need to get this and that tractor. Well that would be nice if I could afford one! So I'm looking at the... Brush hog advice and help please ..read more
