New Tolkien graphic novel under development at Voyage Comics
Voyage Comics Blog

One of our biggest heroes at Voyage is J.R.R. Tolkien. He’s been a constant inspiration ever since we started Voyage in 2018. I first was initiated into Middle-Earth when I was in junior-high. Like many others in the year 2001, amidst the hype of the movie adaptation of The Fellowship of the Ring, I decided to ask for the one volume Lord of the Rings for Christmas. Upon receiving it, I went ahead and read the whole book, from The Fellowship of the Ring to The Return of the King by the end of the school year. This was the first substantial fantasy novel I ever read. After that moment I was hook ..read more

Recently Rose Hawthorne’s “heroic virtues” were recognized by the Vatican and she is now known as “venerable”! Rose is the daughter of famous American novelist, Nathaniel Hawthorne. He is most well-known for The Scarlet Letter. The Hawthorne Dominican’s have the announcement on their website: It is with joy that we announce that Mother Mary Alphonsa’s (Rose Hawthorne) cause has advanced from Servant of God to Venerable Servant of God by the Congregation of Saints in Rome.  At this point miracles will begin to be examined.  Please rejoice with us!  It is our hope ..read more

Spider-Man & Faith: Essays on Christian Truth in the Spider-Verse
Voyage Comics Blog
by Philip Kosloski

At Voyage Comics, we are always on the hunt for the true, good and beautiful, eager to find heroic examples that we can imitate. When it comes to our modern culture, especially modern entertainment, this can be difficult, but on occasion we find something good and want to highlight it. We take as our motto the following biblical verse. “Test everything; retain what is good.Refrain from every kind of evil.” (1 Thessalonians 5:21-22) We’ve done this repeatedly on our blog and podcast and are now making this a more permanent feature of our publishing lineup. With this book, we are creating the ..read more

Ghost in the Shell, part III: Transhumanism and Salvation
Voyage Comics Blog
by Michael Bertrand

This is my third article on Ghost in the Shell and transhumanism. You can find the first one here and the second here.  Christianity has interacted with all of the world’s major philosophies. See Plato, Aristotle, and stoicism for classical examples. Look to communism, existentialism, and libertarianism for more modern. If there’s a philosophy out there, someone, somewhere has asked, “What happens if I mix this with Christianity?” What happens if you mix Christianity with transhumanism? Ghost in the Shell provides a negative answer, in that as far as I know, Christianity never makes an ap ..read more

The Dark Crystal and the Sinful, Schismatic Skeksis
Voyage Comics Blog

One of my favorite fantasy movies of all time is The Dark Crystal. This groundbreaking film comes from the mind of Jim Henson. It is directed by his longtime collaborator Frank Oz (known to Star Wars fans as the voice of Yoda). Unlike many fans of this cult classic, I did not watch The Dark Crystal growing up. In fact, I only first experienced this mesmerizing fantasy adventure for the first time a few years ago. But I instantly fell in love with the movie’s rich worldbuilding, spellbinding puppetry, and classic fairytale storytelling. Among of the most striking and memorable elements of The D ..read more

Maybe the greatest trick that God ever played, was convincing the world he wasn’t a “god”
Voyage Comics Blog
by Mike Schramm

I promise this title was not Catholic click bait, so let me first clarify that I am not trying to undermine Jesus’s divinity or Jesus’s claiming to be divine in the Gospels. I know that is an axe that still must be ground. Rest assured, it need not be here. The reason I intentionally under-case the second “god” in the title is because that is the understanding of divinity that would have been taken for granted in the pagan mind before and during the time of Christ. It is also, unfortunately, all-too-often the understanding of divinity in the minds of Christians. In classical theism, one unders ..read more
