Wycoller Hall was a late 16th-century Manor House in the village of Wycoller. The hall was the centre of a sizeable estate, but subsequently fell into disrepair – the ruins are now Grade II listed and form part of Wycoller Country Park. Wycoller is well-known for its three ancient bridges, including this incredible 800-year-old packhorse bridge. It is a simple bridge, just a single slab laid across the beck. It may also have once had a handrail.Clapper Br ..read more

Yesterday, I went to visit a place in Rochdale that I thought you lovely readers would like – The Fairies Chapel.  Not many places exist in which you can lose yourself in its surroundings, but this place is truly mystical and very much worth a visit if you want to let your imagination run while for a few hours… A perfect escape from reality… Within a narrow gorge known as “The Thrutch” within Healey Dell nature reserve and now overshadowed by the viaduct hides a pool and waterfall, before the flood of 1838 which destroyed it, it also contained a cavern in the rock which had a pulpit whic ..read more

Paranormal Hauntings
by Charlene lowe Kemp

Located in Lawnswood Cemetery in Leeds is a Grade II listed monument dedicated to the Late Ethel Preston. Her grave is like no other seen, with a life-size made of white Italian marble statue which resembles just how Ethel would have looked. The statue represents her height, clothes, and even her expression as she waits by a slightly ajar door. Her husband Walter Preston paid a lot of money for her statue and exact replica of their door to be erected in Lawnswood cemetery. Ethel was only 50 years old when she passed in 1911, and her husband wanted her to have the very best. However, suspicions ..read more

A Sad Haunting in Nottingham- Elizabeth Sheppard
Paranormal Hauntings

Written by Charlene Lowe Kemp As a teenager growing up in Nottingham, it was quite the tradition to drive up to Newstead Abbey, when it was open at night, on a Friday or Saturday Night and scare the hell out of each other with our ghost tales of the place. I remember at 17 years old traveling up Nottingham Road, close to the Abbey, and a friend of mine telling me the tale of the young girl appearing out of nowhere in front of the car or appearing In the rear-view mirror as a back passenger as you passed. I remember sitting in the back of the car, looking through the rare viewing mirror, as w ..read more

Sneinton Hermitage | Nottingham’s Forgotten Cave
Paranormal Hauntings

The general area around what is now Nottingham was once known in the Brythonic language as “Tigguo Cobauc” meaning “The Place of Caves” and was referred to as such by the Bishop of Sherborne Asser in 893 AD in The Life of King Alfred. Cave dwellings extended out into Sneinton, wherein they were referred to as the “Hermitage”, being as they were occupied by members of a reclusive religious order. Very little remains of Sneinton Hertimage because in 1829 a rock collapse destroying these buildings, and in 1897 a railway expansion meant cutting away most of the rockface.  What little re ..read more

Black Mere Mermaid Pool – Staffordshire
Paranormal Hauntings
by Charlene lowe Kemp

Few weeks ago, I went to visit the Black Mere Mermaid pool located in Staffordshire in the UK… Set on a craggy and barren southern edge of the Peak District, beside the Leek to Buxton road, it is said that the dark peat-stained waters of the pool are bottomless; cattle refuse to drink there and birds never fly above it. The Legend on the Mermaid on some sites compared to others does contradict itself to some degree. Some state that the pool is haunted by a mermaid which did seem to confuse a few who seen my reel on the location on my Facebook page. The Legend Well there is two, the first stat ..read more

Paranormal Hauntings

Last weekend I decided to pay a visit to the weird shop located in Nottingham. We have investigated this shop twice now and both times did not disappoint. If you have not visited this shop and you are into the weird and wonderful, it most definitely is a must. Just be warned you could spend hours and hours in the shop looking at the quirky items up for sale. When I first spoke to the owner, Zee, I stated I would visit to gage what I felt may possibly be haunting the building as he stated he has had activity. Given the location being so close to Sneinton lace market it did not suprise me as it ..read more
