Are you likely to have supernumerary teeth if you have supernumerary baby teeth?

My 5 year old has two extra teeth up top that are pushing her two front teeth forward. She has an overbite and struggles to chew quietly with her mouth closed and sleep with her mouth closed, but she does not mouth breathe. What are the chances her adult teeth will be extra as well, and what are the complications of having supernumerary teeth, as well as options? I feel bad because she is becoming a very disruptive eater and other kids make fun of her for it, and adults glare at her, and even I have my limits on hearing and seeing her chew, but she says it’s hard. Also other kids make fu ..read more

Do I have to get scaling and root planing done before getting cavities filled?

24F. No smoking/drinking. I’m a T1 diabetic. I’m recovered, but depression & bulimia have done a real number on my teeth. I finally worked up the courage to get them fixed and found a dentist I love. They’ve done one extraction & filled a couple cavities over the last two months (due to the pain they were causing me), and yesterday I had x-rays & a comprehensive exam done. I need a root canal, crown, and 7 cavites filled. They also scheduled me for a scaling and root planing. My last regular cleaning was in 2020. I don’t have the chart, but the hygienist called out a couple 1’s &a ..read more

Herpes outbreak on hard pallet?

I take prophylactic aciclovir for shingles and genital herpes, but I’ve not had any outbreak of the latter in <10 years. As far as I know, I’ve never been diagnosed with herpes in my but have had recurrent episodes of soreness - attached in photo. It doesn’t appear to present as vesicular but is very painful - at least a 6/10. Bonjela and Anbesol are providing relief for 45mins to an hour if I’m lucky. Going to try some difflam oral rinse tomorrow. If it appears to potentially be herpes or similar, I’ll increase the aciclovir to the treatment dose for the next 10 days. TLDR: does this ..read more

Side placed gutta-percha

This is an old root canal I recently started having pain in my gum area not unbearable but annoying. I went to my current dentist he x-rayed it and told me it was due to the gutta-percha sticking out into the gum. He wont touch it and suggested I go back to the dentist who did the original work and ask them to fix it. Is that really my problem and is my old dentist really my best option? submitted by /u/Immediate_Guess_9853 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is this a dry socket?

First picture is about 2 hours ago, last two are now. There is a little bit of red inside but no bleeding at all and I don’t have any pain so far but it’s only been about 15 minutes since the tissue fell out. Should the pain start right away if it’s a dry socket? I got the tooth extracted two days ago If it is a dry socket is there anything I can do? Is it too late? Again no pain other than the little bit of soreness I already had. I’m so scared idk what to do I’ve had teeth pulled before as you can probably see in the photos and never had a dry socket but I’ve heard of them…. And i defin ..read more

Well, I haven't been so good about brushing my teeth these past few months and it turns out I have a crack in my tooth, as well as some adjacent cavities in another tooth. The dentist told me there is almost certainly a cavity in the cracked tooth and I will need to have it drilled and filled. You can barely see the crack in the x-ray, though. I really would not like to drill it at all, given that the lifespan of a composite filling is ~8 years more or less and each time it's replaced the hole gets bigger. That said, it would be dumb to not address this now before an infection occurs. Ove ..read more

Oral sedation

I have a really severe phobia of needles and the dentist, I've went though a lot in the past medically which I feel like has somewhat traumatised me, I need a filling in a back tooth but would it be possible for me to be sedated with something like midazolam? I've had gas and air before, but it isn't enough to calm my nerves and block the pain as l usually am unable to get a numbing injection because of my fear of needles. I’m in the uk if that effects anything submitted by /u/New_Character_4328 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
