2024 Is Not 2023

We have a family motto: “Bandholz's never give up.” I’d love to say I created this for my kids as they face adversity, but it’s more of a reminder to me. Beardbrand is in its 12th year of business, and last year was one of those years when I had to tell myself not to give up. For the first time in our history, Beardbrand ended the year unprofitable. That isn’t supposed to happen. When you’re an established brand things are supposed to be easier, and you’re supposed to be growing. 2023 was the opposite. In 2023, we were dealt a series of setbacks and challenges we had to overcome. Some were of ..read more

The Definitive Guide to Mustache Styles
Beardbrand Blog
by Mike Lawson

Look, we love beards at Beardbrand, but the mustache is damn cool. There’s always been a spirit of rebellion behind mustaches — the exception being its peak popularity in the 1980s when the mustache was as commonplace as iPhones are today. The mustache was dangerous and powerful. Pirates and swashbucklers wore them. Colonel Joshua Chamberlain wore a walrus mustache that was so long it flapped in the wind as he yelled, “bayonet!” and held the Union flank at Gettysburg. Teddy Roosevelt took a bullet while delivering a speech, dusted himself off, and finished the speech — while wearing one hell o ..read more

Beardbrand Blog
by Mike Lawson

Despite its utilitarian origins as a work shirt for ranchers and bull riders, the pearl snap has earned its place as an Americana staple. In Texas, a pearl snap shirt is a wardrobe standard — the equivalent of a plain white t-shirt or faded pair of blue jeans. There’s even an Austin-brewed beer named Pearl Snap. But even if you don’t live in the Lone Star State, you should own at least one pearl snap shirt to add some variety to your rotation of button-downs. Now, the pearl snap shirt as we know it came into existence just after WWII. And over the years, it’s gone through multiple revisions ..read more

Conditioning your beard and scalp hair is one of the most critical steps in any grooming routine. Conditioning not only restores hydration to the hair shafts — it also helps protect the hair from environmental damage, helps reduce tangles, and helps prevent the hair shafts from breaking. But do you need a separate conditioner for your beard than what you use for your scalp hair? For years, we took a straightforward approach to scalp and beard hair — an approach informed by the understanding that there are some differences between beard hair and scalp hair. That resulted in us formulating diffe ..read more

We’ve been getting some questions from customers about Beardbrand Utility Wash and Beardbrand Utility Softener that are similar to the question below: "Hey guys, I've used your products for about three years and LOVE everything I've purchased. The only thing that I have not tried is y'all's shampoo and conditioner (I've been using beard wash and softener). I remember receiving articles you sent me about the differences between head hair/beard hair, your beard wash products and hair products, and why one is better for one. I was always taught the more uses one product can have, long term it may ..read more

Beardbrand Blog
by Mike Lawson

If there’s one thing that blows about having a mustache — it’s blowing your nose while having a mustache. Mustaches are powerful! They’re masculine and strong and represent virality — until they’re soaked with snot. Look, that manstache is practically a ShamWow for snot rockets. Yeah, it’s gross. This is not news to us. And as far as we know, blowing your nose has been an issue for mustachio’d men since the advent of mucus. Is there any hope? No, not really. But as we make our way through flu season, we have five tips to help keep your mustache a little less mucousy. 1. FIND SOME PRIVACY Nothi ..read more
