Returning to studies after a gap of many years (13 for me) is always challenging. And if you throw in juggling parenthood while you are at it, it is mayhem, to say the least!    When I got my Henley acceptance letter for an MSc in Marketing, I was elated to be accepted and was thrilled to be finally doing a Masters degree. But soon that excitement was replaced with anxiety and as September approached closer, I grew more and more worried about balancing my life as a mother to a 5-year-old (very mischievous, may I add) daughter and that of a student. The task seemed daunting, and I was unce ..read more

The rewilding of leadership
Henley Blogs

Dr Chris Dalton At the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show in London this year, one garden caught the eye of the judges, the imagination of the public and the headlines in the press like no other. The Rewilding Garden, co-engineered by landscape designers Urquhart and Hunt and (we’re told) some beavers, won Gold Medal and Best Show Garden awards. The garden represented the effects and benefits of rewilding as an approach, in this case on the likeness of a landscape from the southwest of England. Rewilding means returning a habitat to its natural state. It is a contemporary reaction ..read more

Professor David Pendleton While debating leadership with a group of very smart people, I was provoked by a man with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. I had just been extolling the virtues of distributed leadership and sharing some compelling evidence about it when my interlocuter wanted to remind me of the towering figures of Steve Jobs, Elon Musk and others. These leaders, he insisted, were iconoclastic, uncompromising visionaries whose single-point, authoritarian leadership was the key to their organisations’ success. They had no truck with shared leadership, he went on, so why m ..read more

Henley Business School, Whiteknights Campus, Reading, UK By Janelle Benedict, MSc Digital Marketing student As the end of the academic year approaches at Henley, I have had time to reflect on what I have learnt this year and how I’ve managed to stay afloat during challenging times! The step up from undergraduate to masters level is unquestionably difficult. The amount of work you are given increases and expectations are much higher than undergraduate. If you search for study tips, results will show highlighters, past exam papers and mind maps. Although these are important, as a masters student ..read more
