In 1785, Prince George or Wales commissioned a tiny portrait of his eye and sent it to his beloved, Maria Anne Fitzherbert, to convince her to marry him. It worked, and they were married shortly thereafter. The Prince then commissioned a portrait of Fitzherbert’s eye so that he might have her with him all the time. The tiny portraits became popular in England in the late 18th century. Some commissioned them as a token of affection for their lover, and others used them as a memento of a departed family member. These necklaces have gained a new popularity with the show Bridgerton. If you follow ..read more

Puppy Love Dog Toy Crochet Pattern

Do you like to crochet toys for your fur babies? Bruno loves squeaky toys, and I love making him new toys. This week I made a dog-shaped toy out of different sizes of crocheted hearts. It’s an easy pattern using cotton worsted yarn, and it won’t take you long to make it. Please be aware that all dogs are different; some will eat a toy within a day. Bruno will chew on a toy for about 3-4 months before it’s ready for the trash. Regardless of how long it takes them to finish the toy, cotton yarn and cotton stuffing are best because they can be digested by the dog. Materials: Cotton worsted weight ..read more

The flower for January birthdays is the Carnation, scientific name Dianthus (of Zeus). The ancient Greeks called it “the flower of the gods.” They have a slightly spicy scent, sort of like cloves. Each time I smell a carnation, the scent carries me back to high school – school dance corsages made of red and pink carnations. Today’s free download is a Carnation Gift Tag for the January birthdays. Unicorn Bobblehead Crochet Pattern
My Fingers Fly
by My Fingers Fly

National Bobblehead Day Do you like bobbleheads? My husband collects them, mostly of sports figures. When we travel, though, we do try to find one from any new city that we visit. We have a Royal Guard bobblehead from London and an Al Capone bobblehead from San Francisco. I decided to make a unicorn bobblehead, just to see if a crochet bobblehead was possible. The resulting unicorn is just too cute. I hope you enjoy it too. This design requires wire and a wooden dowel for assembly, so it’s not suitable as a children’s toy. It would make a great decor item for a little girl’s room or a nursery ..read more

Have you made your resolutions yet for the new year? I’ve created a PDF for you to download to give you a head start.   2023 Crochet Resolutions     I WANT TO START: Now that the pandemic is pretty much behind us, I would like to start traveling again and visiting local yarn stores. I WANT TO STOP: For many fiber artists, the answer here would be “buying yarn for no reason.” This was my resolution a couple of years ago, and I’m proud to say that I’ve done pretty well with it. What I really need to stop doing is taking screen shots of knit items because I want to crochet th ..read more
