A critique of the series Nu is also critical of naturism

Planet Nude has recently published a critique of Nu, a 2018 French television series about a fictional totalitarian society based on the proposition that transparency implies everyone being nude all the time. As I say, it’s fiction.  But the authors of the critique allow themselves to be drawn into a critique of naturism which makes a number of highly misleading and unhelpful suggestions about what naturists stand for. You can read the full article here. The section to which I object follows the sub-heading “A lesson for naturists?”  Below, I offer some responses to the arguments put ..read more

The International Naturist Federation recently celebrated its 70th anniversary, quite naturally at the Centre Hélio-Marin in Montalivet, where the INF-FNI was created in 1953. 123 people, from 23 federations, participated in the gathering. After six weeks of rather bad weather, the gods of naturism smiled on the INF-FNI it was nice and warm throughout the event. After a day of welcomes and the distribution of bracelets designed for the 70th anniversary, we met at 6pm in front of La Cave du CHM bottle shop for the official welcome drinks, where we tasted a large selection of local wines from th ..read more

The history of Naturism ORPLID
INF-FNI International Naturist Federation

A movement against prudery in the German Empire. Around 1900, sun worshippers, socialists and Germanic enthusiasts outraged the prudish empire with their nudity propaganda. Conservative society demanded high-necked, ankle-length clothing. But from 1910 onwards, more and more people resisted these norms. The followers of the nudist movement, also known as light fighters and nudists, propagated uncovered nudity in social life. In cities like Munich and Berlin, they bathed stark naked in lakes and campaigned for naturism. It was not until 1925 that the movement was officially named Freikörperkult ..read more

The INF-FNI has written in support of the application by the organisation GetNakedGermany to have Naturism in Germany recognised as intangible cultural heritage under the UNESCO convention of 2003. In doing so it joins more than a dozen national naturist federations who have also written to support the application. Intangible cultural heritage, as defined by UNESCO, includes oral traditions, social practices and rituals and other matters which can be seen as maintaining cultural diversity and encouraging respect for different ways of life. In supporting the application, the INF-FNI pointed out ..read more

In March we enjoyed a very successful and well-managed meeting of EuNat – the European arm of the INF-FNI – in Bonn.  Some important discussions took place, including a very interesting conference on the main challenges to Naturism – and discussions took place about the events that European federations would support financially. And the previous October, Luxembourg hosted a successful and productive World Congress when some important decisions about the future of the organisation were taken. In relation to both of these events, the most-endorsed feedback I received from my home federatio ..read more

If you read this blog here, I’m sure you’re familiar with naturism…. And I’m sure you know its definition by heart, as finalized by INF-FNI: “Naturism is a way of living in harmony with nature, characterized by the practice of communal nudity, with the aim of fostering self-respect, respect for others and respect for the environment”.   But do you know Esperanto? Esperanto is the international language developed by Dr. Zamenhof at the end of the 19thcentury. The aim of Esperanto is to advance world peace by adopting an auxiliary language that is neutral and easy for everyone to learn. Dr ..read more

The principles and purity of the naturist philosophy.

The topics are numerous, ranging from nutrition, hygiene, medicine, love of nature, plants and animals, non-violence, to reform and simplification of clothing and many other aspects of daily life. To name just two very topical issues: Energy conservation and waste recycling. These are elementary practices in every naturist family or farm since 1920. While the typical citizens who feel irresponsible, and not only in Naples, do not implement them even today: “others”, “the state” must think of everything. Relying on one’s own strength, self-sufficiency, is instead, as far as possible, a basic pr ..read more
