My name is Amy O’Donnell; I’m a former resident of San Antonio and the Communications Director for Texas Alliance for Life. I’m here today speaking against using the Reproductive Justice Fund allocations toward travel for elective abortions. We believe that 100% of the funds should go for services for women that do not fund referrals or travel for elective abortions.  We are thankful to live in a state that prioritizes care for women and families. We see this in the Texas Legislature’s generously funded Alternatives to Abortion program, Medicaid, and the Healthy Texas Women Program. In 2 ..read more

More Misinformation by Biden on Abortion!
Texas Alliance for Life Blog
by Joe Pojman
1w ago
As anticipated, President Biden took the opportunity to sow misinformation in last week’s State of the Union address regarding Texas abortion laws. He used the tragic case of Kate Cox, a Dallas woman whose unborn baby was diagnosed with a condition known as Trisomy 18. The president falsely claimed that the life or future fertility of Ms. Cox was at risk from the pregnancy and that she was denied an abortion in Texas. President Biden is completely wrong. Texas law is clear. If a woman has a pregnancy that endangers her life or future fertility, her physician, using reasonable medical judgment ..read more

Dr. Joe Pojman, Executive Director of Texas Alliance for Life, delivered this message before a crowd of thousands at the 2024 Texas Rally for Life on Saturday, January 27, at the Capitol in Austin.   We live in a remarkable state in an incredible moment in history. Because of the leadership of Governor Greg Abbott, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, and Speaker Dade Phelan working in our Capitol building before you, our state is the best of all the states in protecting mothers and unborn babies. Our state provides vast resources for women with unplanned pregnancies. Last spring, the Legislature ..read more

Life and Health of Mother Exceptions: Legal and Moral Standards
Texas Alliance for Life Blog
by Christopher Maska

As published in Society of St. Sebastian, Bioethics in Law & Culture, Fall 2023, v. 6 issue 4 Life and health of the mother exceptions that allow for abortions can be found in both statutes and moral standards. Abortion throughout all nine months became the law of the land when the Supreme Court allowed states in the third trimester to regulate abortion to preserve the life of the child except to preserve the mother’s health and then created a health exception so broad that it always allowed for an abortion. However, in Casey, [1] the Court allowed for a real health exception that only ap ..read more

Celebrating Dobbs’ First Anniversary at Planned Parenthood

I couldn’t be more pleased to be with you here in Houston at this historic moment, June 24, 2023, the first anniversary of the Supreme Court’s overturning of the terrible Roe v. Wade decision. Roe was not just wrong, it was catastrophic, leading to the destruction of 63 million unborn lives and harming countless women, men, and families. The Dobbs v. Jackson decision, handed down one year ago today, did away with half a century of deadly precedent. Though the opinion is 78 pages, the result is simple. Nowhere in the Constitution is there a right to abortion — not in the text and not in this n ..read more

My name is Joe Pojman, Executive Director of Texas Alliance for Life. We support SB 24, and we thank the author for bringing it. I will speak to SECTION 4, which adds Chapter 54 to the Health and Safety Code. We note that bill creates a statutory basis for the highly successful Alternatives to Abortion program. We strongly support that. The time is right to do just that to preserve and enhance the strengths of the Alternatives to Abortion program for decades to come. The Alternatives to Abortion program provides vast resources for women and families with unplanned and planned pregnancies so t ..read more

My name is Dr. Joe Pojman. I am the Executive Director of Texas Alliance for Life. We strongly support SB 20 and thank Chair Huffman for authoring it. This bill successfully addresses a problem that we believe should be called a dereliction of duty by a small number of district attorneys in our state. We completely understand and appreciate the principle of prosecutorial discretion. Necessitated by limited resources or the goal of achieving justice in individual cases, prosecutors will naturally prioritize prosecuting offenses on a case-by-case basis. However, a prosecutor should never c ..read more

Protecting the Child of a Rape Survivor
Texas Alliance for Life Blog

This is a guest blog by activist Heather Hobbs. I grew up in an abusive household, and as a teenager, I vowed never to bring children into such a horrendous world. My perspective on this matter was shaped by my upbringing, which was characterized by violence and neglect. Heather Hobbs However, my resolve was tested when I was violently raped by my abusive boyfriend, and I found out that I was pregnant from that rape. Coming from a staunch pro-choice background, I didn’t know any other way out of this situation other than abortion. Things went from bad to worse when my rapist found out that I ..read more

As published in The Dallas Morning News   Recently, the Center for Reproductive Rights, a New York-based abortion advocacy firm, filed a lawsuit asking a state court to clarify the scope of the exceptions in Texas abortion laws regarding pregnant women with certain rare but life-threatening medical conditions. The case, filed on behalf of five Texas women and two physicians, is Zurawski vs. Texas. In our modern era, these types of life-threatening situations are rare. Our hearts go out to each woman mentioned in the brief who experienced the loss of her unborn child due to a fatal ..read more
