DH and I are considering tapping into our home’s equity using this: https://www.hometap.com/how-it-works/ to do a room addition, which we’ve had estimated at 100k (assume it comes in more than this, since prices/labor high) Basically, you get money from them, and they get a percentage of the equity you have in your home and get their money when you sell (I don’t know how this works with if you put the home for rent). WIth the recentl rise in equity, our house has gone up 400k since we first purchased the home last year. I am not a huge fan, and am arguing for a HELOC, but this seems like a no ..read more

The home is expected to appraise for at least $600K, and my mother is willing to sell me the home for $400K. We are thinking of trying to use the $200K decreased price as a “gift of equity” and down payment on the $400K house. If I am able to secure a mortgage loan using this gift of equity/down payment and borrow an additional $200K, will my mother receive apx $400K upon selling me the house? I really want to keep the house within our family and give my mother the ..read more

finance.yahoo.com Soaring home prices made you house-rich? Here's how to make the most of it You're living inside a giant piggy bank now — and have options for shaking out some cash. No new insights for experienced RE investors. I have re-financed (didn’t do cash out because don’t know where to deploy) few months ago, too tired to do another.
