Waiting on a surgery date for hip replacement, but meanwhile...with the "bone on bone" I've fallen off my regular routine. I've learned so much within this group about mobility and the importance of keeping the joint "active" if possible - so, that being said, the PT exercises are generally too painful at this point. I am doing what modifications I can (I took a lot of yoga once upon a time, and so I understand a bit about that), but what stretches or exercise might any of you with a bone on bone joint find that are both beneficial and able to be done without causing additional discomfort? Systemic osteoarthritis: the difficulty of categorically naming a continuous condition Full text at the link. Abstract Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disease with systemic implications that go beyond joint problems. Its pathogenic mechanisms involve a variety of systemic conditions that contribute to joint damage. These include metabolic dysfunction, chronic low-grade inflammation, neuroplastic pain, and the influence of the central nervous system in the development of neuropathic pain. Besides, OA can negatively affect other aspects of health, such as quality of life, reduced physical activity, soc ..read more

Does anyone here get any benefit from using a TENS unit? I was given one years ago for my lower back, I was diagnosed with "systemic osteoarthritis" about 30 years ago (62m). Partially herniated and/or cracked disks at L1-5 and S1-3. Full (L) knee replacement back in 2012. (R) elbow ulnar nerve transposition back in 2006. I was taking 90mg morphine daily until 2 years ago when it became ineffective due to tolerance buildup. Now only occasional aspirin, no other meds. I've used this TENS unit occasionally but it's cumbersome with the wires and gel pads, do the newer compact models I've seen pr ..read more

Repeat RFAs

Hi all, Recently diagnosed with facet joint OA after a long period of struggling with LBP. Following 2 successful medial branch blocks, my doctor is recommending RFA for my chronic lower back pain. I'm on "the younger side of the spectrum" for the procedure (35) and he said that after you have the procedure repeatedly, it becomes less effective because scar tissue builds up around the nerve and it becomes difficult to ablate. It didn't sound like he had seen that himself, but it was something that make logical sense and/or was something he had heard. Has anyone had repeated RFAs (ideally lumb ..read more

I am only 22, and I am terrified how I got arthritis at such a young age. I got it after being injured from running, and it hurts to know I will be forever crippled and disabled by this. I wish I could go back in time to avoid making a life destroying decision. Will I have a shorter lifespans and quality of life because of this? submitted by /u/Square_Case909 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Does a ton of pain equal my mri results?

I am trying to figure out if I have something else going on. I have pain in my lumbar muscles mostly that radiates around to my hips when it's really bad. My spine itslef does not hurt that much. I don't get shooting pains down my legs. I have the most pain when twisting, bending, and laying on my back or stomach. It has progressively gotten worse over the past 3 years. I'm only in my 40s and I try to exercise, but it all hurts so I exercise in spurts. I can only lay on my sides to sleep. My mri results are below: Degenerative changes predominantly at L5-S1. Minor scoliosis. No herniated disc ..read more

Hi all diagnosed with osteoarthritis in spine and hips I’m 63. Can only walk short distances with the aid of crutches before pain in spine is unbearable. At what stage did people in a similar position consider a wheelchair. Not a question I thought I’d ever ask. Thanks submitted by /u/Ptcoylederry [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
