We are beyond disappointed by the abject failure of the University of Manchester and the Manchester Students’ Union to protect and uphold freedom of speech.
What Happened
Yesterday evening, a student pro-life group at the University of Manchester were due to hold a talk discussing the purpose of their new society and its aims for the rest of the year. A protest of the event was organised, claiming it would be peaceful and at a different location to the event. However, the event location was discovered and the pro-life students attending the event were met by hundreds of students booing the ..read more

APS is front and centre in the media, being asked for comment in the news again. Unfortunately, it is a tragic case.
What Happened
You may now have heard that Carla Foster has been sentenced to 28 months for using abortion pills to end the life of her unborn child, an 8 month old girl named Lily.
Ms Foster claimed to be 7 weeks pregnant and received abortion pills, which she used to end Lily’s life. When she went into labour paramedics were called, but unfortunately the attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.
As an organisation, we are deeply saddened by the death of Lily, and ..read more

My body, my choice-unpacking the inequality behind the pro-choice mantra.
Every pro-lifer has heard the phrase ‘my body, my choice’. Some of us have had it screamed in our faces. But what does it really mean? It’s a deceptive slogan that sounds as though it follows the basic rules of logic. However, look more closely at the ideology behind it and you’ll find some disturbing implications. In this article, I’ll discuss the dualism behind ‘my body, my choice’, its skewered interpretation of what choice and equality really are an ..read more

LONDON (10th February 2021) – There’s no more room for tolerance at UK universities, according to the results of the latest poll released by the Alliance of Pro-Life Students (APS).
The poll, which sampled over two hundred “pro-life” students from across the UK, found that more than 70% of participants have faced situations in lectures or seminars where they feel “unable to speak” about their views. Nearly a quarter have been “threatened, abused, alarmed or distressed – by actions or words – by another student or academic” because of their membership with a pro-life society. One in t ..read more

Being Pro-Life and Male
A controversial position to hold in this day and age is being both male and being against the direct and intentional killing of unborn children in their mothers’ womb. A few common assertions against such an individual is to mind their own business, that no uterus equals no opinion on the topic, and that abortion is solely an issue revolving around the mothers’ choice. All of these arguments would suggest that males have no place in the abortion debate and effectively exclude males from the discussion. Discrimination in action? Very ..read more

The concept of viability is a widely used argument in the abortion debate. But what does ‘viability’ really mean in the pro-life/pro-choice context? The term is commonly used to denote a baby’s ability to survive outside of the womb. It is usually used by those who support abortion up to a certain gestational stage such as when a human infant can supposedly survive unaided outside of the womb. The argument often goes along the lines of ‘abortion is acceptable up to the stage of when a baby could potentially survive by itself outside of the womb.’ This argume ..read more

No, this blog post is sadly not about the relative virtues of various toboggans. Rather it will explore four descriptive characteristics commonly used to dehumanise the unborn and legitimise abortion. SLED stands for Size, Level of Development, Environment and Degree of Dependency. Each of these characteristics are often used as arbitrary measures of humanity by those in favour of abortion. The aim of this post is to outline how these characteristics can be used to describe different humans but they do not encapsulate humanity itself.
Lets begin with size. I ..read more

The concept of bodily autonomy is one of the more common and sophisticated arguments put forward by the pro-‘choice’ position. I will attempt to outline in two points why it cannot be used as an argument in support of abortion and why the use and context of the term ‘bodily autonomy’ within the pro-’choice’ movement is erroneous. The first of these points is the essential recognition of the unborn body as an individual with its own right to bodily autonomy. The second point is that the unborn child’s dependency does not refute their right to existence but ..read more

Last week we looked at euthanasia as a product of society’s aversion to the suffering of others and unwillingness to engage with anyone elderly or unwell. Now we will consider it more from the perspective of its victims.
The common image perpetuated by those in favour of euthanasia is of someone in unbearable, intractable pain. However, such cases of extreme pain being medically impossible to alleviate are actually fairly rare. Advances in palliative medicine have enabled people to die in more comfort than ever before. Sometimes ..read more

Introducing people to the pro-life position and defending the pro-life argument can certainly be a daunting task, particularly in this day and age!
Unfortunately, as anyone who actively promotes the pro-life position knows, it can present quite a few problems, particularly because of the common misconceptions surrounding the argument in favor of life and surrounding pro-lifers themselves. Yet each difficulty presents its own opportunity and whilst being a pro-life ambassador can certainly be daunting, it also provides within itself the chance to corre ..read more
