Hey there! I'm Hilary Parry Haggerty, and I'm a tarot reader, witch, writer, editor, and teacher. I started reading tarot at sixteen years old, after gifting my mum a tarot deck that was not-so-well received. I got that tarot deck back in the form of "Hilary, just read the cards for me" and a tarot reader was born. If you're looking for someone headed to read your cards (or teach you), I'd..

Everyone’s familiar with that feeling: Frozen. Stuck. Uncertain. Deer in headlights “I don’t want to make the wrong move so I won’t make any move at all.”
Thing is, choosing not to decide is still a choice. At least, that’s what the band Rush says in their song “Free Will”. I tend to agree.
I used to think about choice in a few different ways:
If you don’t like where you’re at, choose something different.
Most choices are not permanent, so it’s not a big deal if you “choose wrong”. Choose again, try something different.
In every moment, there is always a choice ..read more

I keep on forgetting to blog. Because why would I, when I technically vlog every week during my livestream?
It’s hard to keep everything I’m doing up to date. First, there’s my book which comes out 11/22/22 (talk about divine timing!). Then there’s my podcasts, plural: Cardslingers Coast to Coast and the Tarot by Hilary podcast.
To add to my plate, I’m also participating in National Novel Writing Month, which usually finds me sequestered, isolated, and weird. You’d be too if you wrote 50,000 words in a month.
But I digress. We had a really fun and information episode of the livestream last we ..read more

I’ll admit it: Motel Makeover on Netflix quickly became my guilty pleasure watch at the end of the summer.
I binged the entire season in a matter of days (honestly, it’s a pretty quick series).
And while I do admit that some of the seemingly invented drama and crunch times was cheesy, I still watched the whole thing and gleaned some interesting home design tips in the process (not to mention some business nuggets).
Also, I fought with my husband asking the question why can’t I buy a Good Vibes Only neon sign? (answer: the jury’s still out, and I may just order one anyway for my weekl ..read more

Oh hi, and greetings on this Saturday!
Guess what?
Mr. Tarot by Hilary tested positive for the you-know-what. I feel like it was only a matter of time, even though we’ve been careful.
So we’re both in lockdown mode for a little while. I tested negative and am feeling fine, but stuck in the house. #stopthespread
I figured why not offer you a discount and get some readings done while I’m cooped up and also dealing with gestures to everything such as the overturning of Roe V. Wade?
Obviously all readings will be done over Zoom, phone, or skype – otherwise it kinda defeats the purpose of the reas ..read more

Big news first, which may explain the lack of a newsletter last month and my social media quietness….
I’m writing (wrote) a book!
My first book Tarot: Practical and Celestial (also may be titled How to Read Tarot) is now available for preorder on Amazon, BN, and at your local independent bookstores via IndieBound!
Publication date is slated for November 22, 2022 (I love that it’s 11/22/22, what a fantastic numerological combination!).
As usual when I have a huge deadline, the rest of my obligations quieted down in order to accommodate it. I also have anothe ..read more

How many of you have been given business or career advice from me in the course of a tarot reading or a series of tarot readings?
Have you made extreme life changes as a result? Have you been deeply unhappy, and ready to make a change, and that reading was the catalyst to get off your ass and make that change?
Whether the answer is yes in the extreme, a few small tweaks, job searches, lateral moves, or a complete career change… that’s awesome.
Also… you got that advice from a complete hypocrite. That hypocrite was me.
Until now.
I am now reading tarot full-time. My books are open for mid-Febr ..read more

This is a truncated list. The full version is available here.
Whether you read tarot cards for yourself or others, the environment during your readings can make all the difference. By creating a safe, relaxing, and comfortable space to read your cards, you can deepen your experience and improve your overall practice.
Having a room dedicated for card reading is great, but it isn’t required. All you need is a space where you can quietly practice without being disturb ..read more

This title gleefully and gratefully stolen from the lovely and wonderful Alexandra Franzen. It was written about newsletters (ooh apropos) but really can be applied to anything, can’t it?
I’m working through some of the materials for Magic May and I’m coming to realize that lately a lot of clients have come to me with the fear that they’ve wasted their time.
Whether it’s divorcing or separating from a long term relationship, or waking up to the twentieth year in the same job that’s been sucking their soul… they feel that if only they started on what they rea ..read more

What is no longer working? What will you do to free yourself?
For me, I haven’t been doing a lot of blogging in the last year and a half. Maybe it’s because I’ve been doing a live weekly show and within that I’ve been able to say my peace, maybe it’s because of the Cardslingers Coast to Coast podcast where I am one third of a triumvirate of badass tarot readers (and all Fire signs to boot, we are not shy about our opinions!). I dunno.
What I do know is that I finally turned off commenting on my blog. And it’s been more freeing than I thought it would be.
It’s freeing because I’m now not wri ..read more

Yesterday I woke up with a full-on migraine. I don’t get migraines very often, but my husband gets both migraines and cluster headaches… so he’s well-versed in what to do.
Calling in sick to work wasn’t an option, what with remote working and a tight deadline, so he instructed me to take a nap for lunch and that he’d wake me up in an hour.
I slipped on my sleep mask that I had gotten from Delta (extras left over from our big trip to Denmark and the Baltic Sea Cruise back in 2019) to block out the light, and vaguely wished that Dave had ordered me my Chr ..read more
