The Fundamental Error of Calvinism
Pastor Wagner's Corner

The fundamental error of Calvinism is the misunderstanding of the nature of regeneration. Most Calvinists understand that regeneration precedes faith, and that regeneration is the sovereign act of God which enables a man to have faith in Christ. What they fail to understand is that regeneration is the act of giving the elect eternal life. Regeneration enables faith because it resurrects the dead spirit within him to new life. The new life given in regeneration is eternal life. Calvinists are correct in thinking that regeneration changes a man spiritually, giving him the ability to exercise fai ..read more

Willing to Live and Ready to Die

Matthew Henry’s sage words have been replaying through my mind for several days.  While bearing life’s crosses, many Christians have to fight the temptation to give up on their willingness to live.  This may seem like an unchristian attitude to those who have not suffered with depression, anxiety, or burnout, but an examination of the lives of some of the greatest men in Biblical history shows that this is a common struggle among the followers of God.  When Moses was overburdened with the responsibility of leading the rebellious, ungrateful nation of Israel, he reached a breakin ..read more

Story of My Conversion

In keeping with the example of the apostle Paul, I endeavor to tell the story of how I became a disciple of Jesus Christ (Act 22:1-21; Act 26:1-23). I grew up going to the Tionesta Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Tionesta, PA.  It was a fairly conservative church by today’s standards.  I believed from a very young age in the free-will doctrine of salvation.  I repeated some version of the “sinner’s prayer” at about five years old, being led through it by a well-meaning twelve-year-old boy. Several years later―probably around age nine or ten―I was troubled in my mind ..read more

Waiting on the Lord to Save Us

This is a fascinating prophecy of the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, a proof of His deity, and an exhortation to wait for His return. “That day” in Isaiah’s prophecy refers to “the resurrection at the last day” (Joh 11:24) when Jesus Christ will return to raise the dead and forever vanquish death itself. In the previous verse (Isa 25:8), the prophet prophesied that “He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces.” These statements are shown by the apostles in the New Testament to refer to the resurrection and our lives on the new earth. 1 ..read more

Eternal Salvation is by the Obedience of Christ Alone
Pastor Wagner's Corner

The scripture teaches that it was by the obedience of Jesus Christ alone that many were made righteous.   Rom 5:19 – For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.   Arminianism advocates that eternal salvation is conditioned on believing the gospel. Men are charged by our Lord Jesus Christ to “repent ye, and believe the gospel” (Mar 1:15), and therefore to believe the gospel is to obey the command of Christ. But in order to believe the gospel, one must first hear it; and in order for one to hear it, a preacher ..read more

His Rest Shall Be Glorious

Recently as I was reading in the book of Isaiah, the above passage spoke deeply to my soul, particularly the last phrase: “and his rest shall be glorious.” This verse is a prophecy of the Messiah, which the apostle Paul made clear when he quoted it in the book of Romans. Rom 15:8-9, 12 – Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers: 9 And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name. . . . 12 And again, Es ..read more

Eternal Salvation is by Grace, Not Works
Pastor Wagner's Corner

The Bible plainly declares, and most professing Christians pay lip service to the fact, that the eternal salvation of sinners is by grace, not works. The following is a sampling of verses which plainly state that God saves by grace, not by works of man.   Act 15:11 – But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they. Rom 3:24 – Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Eph 1:6-7 – To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7 In whom we have r ..read more

On a late Sunday evenin’ After a long day of preachin’ I met up with a pastor We were both too tired to speak So we took turns a prayin’ To the Lord of the harvest Till weariness overtook us And he began to speak He said, son I’ve made a life Out of preaching to God’s people And knowing how to minister By studying the Good Book So if you don’t mind me sayin’ I can see you’re close to faintin’ For the sake of your ministry I’ll give you some advice So I handed him my Bible And I prepared for revival Then he opened up the Book And asked me to take heed And the room got deathly quiet And his fa ..read more

Not All of the Elect Will Believe, but They Will Still Go to Heaven

I recently got an email from a truth-seeker who watched my video called Did Christ Die For Everyone? and had some good questions as a result. I thought I would turn my response into a blog post so that others might benefit by it, if the Lord wills.  The questions are bolded in italics with the answers following. “I understand that, as the Bible says, Christ died for those whom God the Father gave Him. Therefore, Christ died for all sins of those sheep that were given Him, including their sin of unbelief (otherwise, prior to believing all human race would have been condemned to hell ..read more

Liar, Lunatic, or Lord?

During His earthly ministry, Jesus Christ once asked the disciples, “whom say ye that I am?” (Mat 16:15). This is a question that every man must answer, seeing that Jesus Christ is the most significant person in all of human history. All human beings on the planet recognize the significance of Jesus of Nazareth every time they write a date, whether ancient or modern, for time is divided by His birth.  As I write this blog post it’s 2022 AD, which stands for “anno Domini” which is Latin for “in the year of the Lord.”  Dates prior to the coming of Jesus Christ are referred to as “BC” w ..read more
