For everything there is a season.  Trinity Bible Chapel’s COVID-19 saga is officially over.  About three years ago, we received our first tickets.  Then we were convicted of contempt of court.  Then we received more tickets, were convicted of contempt of court again, and the government stole our building.  We met outside for worship for the spring and summer in 2021.  With all that, the elders incurred dozens of civil charges.  The Crown prosecutor recently told the court that there were 78 charges associated with our church.  On Tuesday of this week it ..read more

Brampton’s Monkey-Man God

A Hindu group is erecting a 55-foot-high statue of a Hindu god on their temple-grounds in Brampton, Ontario.  For context, 55 feet is about the length of a full-size big-rig trailer on the highway.  The Hollywood sign is only 50 feet high. It’s an imposing figure, and its stature would cast a long shadow over most residential houses.  The statue is a likeness of the Hindu god, Hanuman.  So, it’s not really a statue; it’s an idol.  According to Hindu religion, Hanuman is a deified monkey-man who was the commander of a monkey army.  He once burned down the Island of ..read more

The Meaning of “Sabbath” in Colossians 2:16
Trinity Bible Chapel - The Pastor's Blog

The 4th Commandment, the one that pertains to the Sabbath, is the most contested of the Ten Commandments.  In fact it’s the only commandment that is actually contested among Christians who hold to an orthodox view of Scripture.  A number argue that the requirement of Sabbath is not for today.  It was for the Old Testament Jews, but it’s not for New Testament Christians.  Among the strongest objections to the abiding authority of the 4th Commandment is Colossians 2:16-17: Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival o ..read more

Is A Woman’s Hair The Headcovering of 1 Cor. 11?
Trinity Bible Chapel - The Pastor's Blog

Last week, I reviewed Dale Partridge’s book, A Covering for Glory (see here).  The book makes the case for women wearing headcoverings during worship services, as well as for men not wearing headcoverings during worship services.  I offered a favourable review, as I wholly support his position.  In 2017, I preached from 1 Corinthians 11:2-16 (see here) and argued similar to Partridge: women should wear headcoverings during worship services.  Our elders have left that to each individual conscience, and that has been the case since.  In fact, this is not a matter of cons ..read more

John Bunyan, Josh Buice, and Christian Nationalism
Trinity Bible Chapel - The Pastor's Blog

Christian Nationalism is all the chatter, occupying headspace for anyone who cares to listen.  The secular establishment has been given over to unthinkable manifold depravities, and some folks are looking for a better foundation than the poisoned fluidity of secularism.  As fluid and gender-fluid as secularism might be, the definition of Christian Nationalism might be a little less mutable, but not much.  My sense, as I listen in, is that folks are often talking over each other, and, because of that, could be producing more heat than light.  Within the slice of blogs I’ve r ..read more

We Lost our Constitutional Appeal: Now What?
Trinity Bible Chapel - The Pastor's Blog

The week before last the Ontario Court of Appeal ruled on Trinity Bible Chapel’s constitutional challenge.  I’ll talk about that in a moment, but first let me offer some background. Back in 2020 and 2021, the Canadian people got scared because the news said we were facing a death-dealing pandemic.  Our provincial government granted Premier Ford emergency powers to rescue us from this once in one hundred years contagion. He promised salvation from the pandemic if we’d just hand him the right to govern Christ’s church and norm Christ’s worship. Trinity Bible Chapel and her elders refus ..read more

Wine at the Lord’s Table: Our Broken Tradition

Paul, when admonishing the Corinthians to be orderly and proper at the Lord’s Supper, said, “For what I received from the Lord that I also delivered to you” (1 Corinthians 11:23).  In other words, the institution is a tradition that is passed hand to hand and generation to generation.  Starting with Jesus, He passed it to Paul, and Paul to the church.  Proper practice is the practice that came from Christ to Paul to the church, and that includes drinking what the Lord offered the disciples in the cup.  At the Last Supper, Jesus said of the cup, “this is my blood of the cove ..read more

The Rainbow Flag, Local Council, and Elmira’s Streets

Elmira is Ontario’s latest community to look at painting a trendy rainbow on one of it’s streets.  Apparently, the Canadian Association of Mental Health has requested that the municipality paint one on a local crosswalk as a show of support for the LGBTQS2+ community.  Those letters — LGBTQS2+ — are likely the latest alpha-numeric code for what has in times past been properly referred to as “sodomy” or “buggery,” or even “unnatural” and “shameful desires,” to use some Bible words.  That those words are more offensive to some than appropriating a rainbow for evil likely tells us ..read more

I have been advising parents to pull their children from public schools for several years.  The primary objective of education should be to foster Christian virtue in the hearts of children.  Apparently this view was once shared by the majority of Ontarians to the point that they had it enshrined in law.  Section 264.1.c of the Ontario Education Act lists that one of the duties of a public school teacher is …to inculcate by precept and example respect for religion and the principles of Judaeo-Christian morality and the highest regard for truth, justice, loyalty, love of country ..read more

Protect Your Children from Public School
Trinity Bible Chapel - The Pastor's Blog

A few months ago, I reported (here) of a Waterloo Region public school teacher who the WRDSB chair censored at a board meeting.  Her offence?  She questioned whether school officials should be teaching children that hormone blockers are a good idea.  She did so while quoting a public school library book that presented hormone blockers as positive and normal.  They censored her presentation and slandered her to the media (see video here).  It’s unacceptable, at least to the WRDSB, to question whether perfectly healthy children should mutilate their bodies. But, do you k ..read more
