THE SITUATION American President Donald Trump is in the Canadian media for the second time in as many weeks, each time for telling jokes at the expense of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Three weeks ago, Prime Minister Trudeau hastened to Trump’s Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago, seemingly panicked over Trump’s public threat of tariffs on all Canadian

A few weeks ago, a podcast featuring Tobias Riemenschneider critiquing Joel Webbon disappeared almost as soon as it appeared. Let me explain the context a little, at the very real risk of your eyes disinterestedly glazing over. If you do lose focus and nod off, just skip to the next paragraph where I rise above

About two weeks ago, Tucker Carlson released an interview with Darryl Cooper, questioning, among other things, the consensus narrative surrounding WWII and Winston Churchill. I listened with curiosity, albeit admittedly somewhat distractedly: it was the podcast de jour during my morning 6 o’clock workout on leg day. But I did listen. I left the podcast

Someone sent me a spicy take on Baptists and Christian Nationalists that recently appeared on social media. Apparently, it’s received not a small amount of attention, at least in our neck of the woods. Here’s the quip: “Post mill and Christendom will not work with Baptist ecclesiology. Because in their ecclesiology you cannot have Christianity

INTRODUCTION Attempting to combat wokeness, conservatives have framed the conflict with the woke left as “equality of outcome” vs. “equality of opportunity.” Equality of outcome means that everyone deserves to live the same quality of life. Equality of opportunity means that everyone deserves the same opportunity. Conservatives allege that the woke left advocates for equality

For the last few generations Canadians typically prided themselves in their tolerance towards immigrants. Now, record numbers of immigrants continue to enter Canada. People are noticing, and they are talking about immigration in a way I’ve never heard Canadians talk. That shouldn’t surprise us, due to the astounding rate at which foreigners are relocating to Canada. Consider this report from True North:
From Jan. to Oct. 1 of last year, Canada accepted about 455,000 new permanent residents and another 800,000 non-permanent residents, like international students, t ..read more

For everything there is a season. Trinity Bible Chapel’s COVID-19 saga is officially over. About three years ago, we received our first tickets. Then we were convicted of contempt of court. Then we received more tickets, were convicted of contempt of court again, and the government stole our building. We met outside for worship for the spring and summer in 2021. With all that, the elders incurred dozens of civil charges. The Crown prosecutor recently told the court that there were 78 charges associated with our church. On Tuesday of this week it ..read more

The 4th Commandment, the one that pertains to the Sabbath, is the most contested of the Ten Commandments. In fact it’s the only commandment that is actually contested among Christians who hold to an orthodox view of Scripture. A number argue that the requirement of Sabbath is not for today. It was for the Old Testament Jews, but it’s not for New Testament Christians. Among the strongest objections to the abiding authority of the 4th Commandment is Colossians 2:16-17:
Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival o ..read more

Last week, I reviewed Dale Partridge’s book, A Covering for Glory (see here). The book makes the case for women wearing headcoverings during worship services, as well as for men not wearing headcoverings during worship services. I offered a favourable review, as I wholly support his position. In 2017, I preached from 1 Corinthians 11:2-16 (see here) and argued similar to Partridge: women should wear headcoverings during worship services. Our elders have left that to each individual conscience, and that has been the case since. In fact, this is not a matter of cons ..read more

Christian Nationalism is all the chatter, occupying headspace for anyone who cares to listen. The secular establishment has been given over to unthinkable manifold depravities, and some folks are looking for a better foundation than the poisoned fluidity of secularism. As fluid and gender-fluid as secularism might be, the definition of Christian Nationalism might be a little less mutable, but not much. My sense, as I listen in, is that folks are often talking over each other, and, because of that, could be producing more heat than light. Within the slice of blogs I’ve r ..read more
