Caladan Oceanic announced this morning that they successfully relocated and surveyed the wreckage of the destroyer off Samar found by RV Petrel back in 2019. In a privately-funded expedition, they were able to go deeper than Petrel using the submersible DSV Limiting Factor, and discovered the main wreck, confirming the identify as USS Johnston (DD-557). Just a few points taken from:
“De draebte krigere I Alken Enge” by Mette Loevschal.
In the first century AD, 80+ people, mostly men and boys were cut down, left on some battlefield for a year, and then deposited in the shallow water of the “Alken Enge” – bog in Jutland, Denmark.
