A regional story that aired during NPR’s Morning Edition and All Things Considered this past week set the stage perfectly: “An Australian study shows that people with multiple sclerosis are four times more likely to divorce than people without the disease,” the radio host said. ”But one mid-Michigan couple has been beating those odds despite ..read more

‘tis the season for year-end giving, but what if we started with ourselves? Whether it’s taking time to rest, connecting with supportive communities, or investing in activities that bring you joy, giving to yourself can be just as impactful as giving to others. Each year at this time, I revisit (and reshare) this essay—MS and ..read more

“Biting the kneecaps off multiple sclerosis never crossed my mind until Dan Campbell came to the Motor City.” I’ve always seen MS as my competition since I was diagnosed in 2000, and Detroit Lions Head Coach Campbell has added fuel to my fire with his focus on grit. Grit. Never backing down. I channeled that ..read more

Hundreds of thousands reasons we all need to vote It’s as though Jennifer and I figuratively have nearly $150,000 riding on the outcomes of the November 5 U.S. Presidential election. Is it possible to live in denial of something you think you accept? I have concluded not really and maybe all at the same time. I recently realized that’s what I’ve been doing with my Multiple Sclerosis for the past 25 years. It hit me at 2:34 AM that what I’ve done is EXCEPTING my ..read more

One late July evening, Dan and I sat together busily typing letters to our U.S. Senators’ and Congressmans’ offices. We were making requests to schedule meetings with them during their August recess – the time when federal legislators leave Washington, D.C., and return to their home districts for a fast-paced schedule of constituent meetings, town ..read more

‘Doing something fun’ with Lake Street Dive
A Couple Takes on MS
by Jennifer Digmann

As my hairstylist Cortney was doing away with my pesky gray hair, she commented that Dan and I are, “Always doing something fun!” I was at Salon 3Twelve that Wednesday afternoon so Cortney could color and coiffe my hair in preparation of a concert that my husband, Dan, was escorting me to later that evening. We were going two hours north that evening to see the band Lake Street Dive at the picturesque open-air Kresge Auditorium at Interlochen Center for the Arts. Lake Street Dive at Interlochen? How fun is that?! I mean, check out this clip from their song Hypotheticals that Dan captured early ..read more

Not everything is bad about living with a chronic illness. There. I said it. Click on image to raed my essay “Rethinking perspectives on MS life changes.” Don’t get me wrong. It sucks that I have Multiple Sclerosis, and it will continue to create unwanted challenges for the rest of my life. But do we do ourselves a disservice when we continually permit the bad to outshine the good when living with a medical condition? I’m not talking toxic positivity. I’m talking about shifting our perspectives. I encourage you to check out my current essay of Exclusive Content for MS Focus – Rethinking perspe ..read more

How Springsteen softened this Wolverine to embrace the Buckeye State
A Couple Takes on MS
by Jennifer Digmann

It has been three weeks, and I still am angry with Bruce Springsteen. And while I am angry at my husband’s most favorite musician, I’m also filled with gratitude and cannot thank Mr. Springsteen enough.  All kinds of happy smiles as we settle into our incredible seats 30 minutes before Springsteen and the E Street Band take the stage. On Sunday, April 20, Dan and I were in Columbus, Ohio, to see Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. This epic three-hour Columbus concert (Dan’s surprise birthday present to me, a converted Springsteen fanatic) brought out a mixed bag of emotions that inc ..read more
