Let’s face it: 2021 has not been a great year for abortion access — and this week was a particularly bleak one, as the Supreme Court heard oral arguments on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the most consequential abortion rights case in 50 years. Grace and Bri unpack the case a bit for you and fully lose their minds over one justice’s dystopian line of questioning. Then, we revisit a conversation with Megan Peterson, Executive Director at Gender Justice, to talk about what will happen in Minnesota if Roe falls. So cheerful! But don’t worry: we’ve also got some great gift ideas for ..read more

Thanksgiving is this week, and you know what that means: time to brush up on how Biden’s infrastructure law will benefit Minnesota! We’ll get into the numbers and then dive back into COVID Corner (what better time to chat pandemics than Thanksgiving, areweright?), and introduce a new segment that runs on schadenfreude: Petty News! We’ll also be chatting with the inimitable Habon Abdulle, the Founder and Executive Director of Ayada Leads, to hear all about her work to involve African diaspora women in local politics -- and elected to office. Let’s get into it!

With the local elections officially wrapped for 2021, we begin looking forward to the 2022 election, where every state seat in MN is up for election - a big freaking deal. Thankfully, in our preparation for this election, very smart people have analyzed the data from previous elections and found a glaring gap in attention: the factory towns. Bri & Grace chat with Senator Aric Putnam about how he managed to win an election in such a place and what he thinks are apt strategies for future candidates. Plus, DFL offices are opening across the state!

It’s a redistricting smorgasbord, y’all! Gather ye round as we weave a delightful redistricting tale that dates back to 1812 -- and also tell some more important, relevant tales from the current process underway here in Minnesota. Learn why redistricting matters, how our state redraws its lines, and why the courts have been involved for 50 years running. Plus, we’ll chat with Representative Emma Greenman about the very real implications of redistricting and the part you can play in this process. Plus, meet the dude behind the word “gerrymander!”

Were we planning on this episode being a September Special Session recap? Yes. Did we actually get a special session? Nope! And Grace & Bri will tell you why. Plus, learn about the leadership changes for both the DFL and GOP in the Senate and why folks are suddenly talking about a purple caucus. Also, surprising no one, Scott Jensen should still not be Governor, but he provides new, terrible reasons that perpetuate the Big Lie. Also, some not-so-great polling for Gov. Walz proves no seat is safe.

Blatantly unconstitutional trash laws have been enacted in Texas, so this entire episode is about the ripple effects of SB8 and why elections matter. Grace & Bri snack on the smorgasbord of bullshit that is Texas’ extreme new abortion ban — plus what that means for Minnesota and how polling on abortion misses the mark. Our guest and State Senate candidate Dr. Aleta Borrud talks resiliency, the politics of joy, the importance of science and choice — and proves it's far past time that the city of Rochester is represented by a doctor.

It’s Infrastructure Week on Ren Fem, y’all, so let’s get into it -- what infrastructure is, why we need to invest in it, and the racist, sexist implications of it when the right folks aren’t at the drafting table. We’ll help you contextualize Biden’s Infrastructure bill in a historic context alongside the New Deal and the Works Progress Administration, and then State Senator and civil engineer Ann Johnson Stewart joins us to talk through what infrastructure investments the MN Legislature is making -- and what stupid hills the GOP is prepared to die on (possibly literally, seeing as how they te ..read more

Last week was FarmFest here in the NorthStar state, which puts agriculture front and center! Bri and Grace dive into the political implications of the current drought conditions and what it might mean for an upcoming special session in the legislature, plus how a California law impacts Minnesota’s hog farmers. (Fun fact: We’re a big pig state.) Also, a spect-ag-ular chat with State Auditor Julie Blaha to talk all things crop art, governmental authority over the State Fair, and our favorite topic of all time: women going where they’re needed and running for office.
