Can someone explain Load and why it doesn't go to the grid?

I have newly installed panels and so far largely happy with the purchase. But, there's something I don't understand and that why when the PV energy created increases, so does "load". Reading through this sub I've seen the term "load dump" used and I'm guessing that's at play here. But I suppose the question is why all of the excess doesn't go into the grid? Over the time of this graph I was out of the house and the usage by the house was at worst constant. But clearly the load isn't. Is this all wasted energy? I was told these panels would be 80-90% efficient, but if I'm losing 10-15kwh ..read more

Does anyone have experience investing in solar energy?

I can't afford solar myself, but I was introduced to the idea of investing in solar projects elsewhere with the limited funds I do have from a friend. He's currently an investor in a project on https://www.climatize.earth/ However, I wanted to see if other platforms could be a good option. Given the market, I'm leaning more toward investing in solar projects than stocks. submitted by /u/renewableenergyfella [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Load dump

how about this; your solar array produces extra output and you really want to use most of it. you can dump it in your water heater, that is given, via load dump, but, what would be even more beneficial for other use? how about dumping the load into a second power storage (battery) bank? say, you have 5KW of daily solar production but you can only use 2KW, at best. you charge your primary bank that uses 2KW. could not be beneficial to dump extra 3KW in some backup battery storage? pros and cons, please discuss. submitted by /u/iglon [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hello! I’m Drew and I’m a senior in high school in northeast Ohio writing my final project on solar panels for a class through Kent State University. More specifically I’m writing on the future industry of solar panels due to my interest in energy. It would be greatly appreciated if you could fill out my survey to gather information about using solar energy. Thank you! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc10UrE7lNBJPgncphLT0grf5lp5OJDciw7zwxwoCHHhPpHvA/viewform submitted by /u/Warm_Platypus_6951 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Panels covering box gutter - is this allowable?

We have recently had solar installed onto our roof but we arent quite happy with the install. we have 2 sections of flat roof which come together in a central section which has a box gutter running the length of the roof. The system covers the box gutter making it very difficult to clean the gutter. Anyone that has box gutters knows that keeping them free of debris is important as the can leak into the ceiling space so easily. what are the thoughts of the solar professionals on this? https://preview.redd.it/qh3gwetv96vc1.png?width=2212&format=png&auto=webp&s=9588e404d6af90873a ..read more

Thoughts on quote

Phoenix area- we have a community pool and gym area where the HOA is thinking of installing solar panels. Some of the feedback received was that the roof above the gym isn’t ideal for solar panels, and recommended a structure. Aside from the structure cost, what do you all think of the price for the panels, etc? One other quote was higher and one other pretty similar. submitted by /u/KOBemaster8 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Why do people buy Enphase when other batteries are 5x less expensive

Compare this 48V RHINO - LiFePO4 - 276Ah - 14kWh ARHNL-48140- with the Enphase IQ5P for example. Why not pay 5k for a 14kwh battery?? The specs are better than enphase too. Check it out Tell me why submitted by /u/ThesolarGuys [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Has any one experienced or heard of e-volv It’s a company which claims to install solar panels with no up front cost and monthly payments This is what they’re offering -avail of a grant money of €2400 -10 panels will cost you €7046 (this is with the included €2400) -If you wanted to pay this over a 10 year period it would be €58.71 a month for ten years which is interest free. No upfront payment. -Your system will be 4.0 kwh system Is this right and legitimate? Is it enough for a semidetached with 3 adults and 2 kids? Background - Live in Seattle area, Have a south facing house. Was quoted a fairly attractive price for installing solar panels 5.4 kW throughput, about 12 QCell 410W panels. Cost is about $13.5K and about 3.5K of federal rebates. (Monthly Electricity usage is 200-600 kWh based on how hot the summer how cold the December was).. Is this quote reasonable? 25 Year Panel waranty, includes installations, laborm materials. submitted by /u/diggschamp [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

No Batteries, can’t charge?

I’m looking at getting a grid metering system with batteries, with a generator I have (portable, dual fuel, 16k. I have had two sales calls and both have said, don’t get batteries. They said they will sell them to me, but don’t recommend it. My gen is a 16k inverter. Not an automatic start. So I would like to have a BA backup so I can get the generator going, and run the house at night on the BA’s. I do lose power for multiple days. I have been told that solar system and or generator can’t charge the BAs when the grid is down. This just does not sound right!? submitted by /u/Vegetable-Diet-3 ..read more
