What to stash this week: Monarch magic

Megan of Megs & Co chose a photo of a chandelier-like cluster of monarch butterflies in a tree on the California coast as the inspiration for her Knitting Our National Parks colorway. Monarch Chandelier is stunning mix of orange, green, brown and gold, with just a hint of pink that makes for what I think of as a speckled neutral. The colorway is available to preorder from Indie Untangled for the next two weeks on two bases that are appropriately made in the USA. American Merino Dream, is a 100% U.S. Mercerized Merino Wool with a generous 450 yards per skein, and Ghost T ..read more

Ten years ago this week, I officially launched Indie Untangled by sending out the first newsletter. It was the first step in an amazing journey. I couldn’t pass this milestone without a yarn-y celebration! For the next 10 months, we are going to mark this occasion with 10 special colorways, each from an indie dyer who has posted to the Indie Untangled online marketplaceand been featured in the newsletter. The colorways will all be inspired by the floral image above.  The first 10th anniversary colorway is from Hazel Knits. Wendee, who is based in Seattle — I got to visit her stu ..read more

Last year, I brought together two of my passions — hand-dyed yarn and breed-specific fibers — into the small-batch subscription of my dreams. The very first installment of the Heritage Wool Collective from Indie Untangled shipped out earlier this month, and I was thrilled at how it all came together! If you missed out on the first shipment, a small batch of extra skeins of this special colorway is now available to purchase. To ensure you receive the next installment in April, which will be milled in Spain and dyed by Megan of Megs and Co., make sure to sign up for a subscription. Bec ..read more

Monica of Gothfarm Yarn, who specializes in non-Superwash, naturally-colored yarns, has collaborated with Ali of Savvy Skeins on the Q 4000 sock kit. The main color is a new custom-milled, fingering-weight yarn from Gothfarm called Oxide, which was created by blending Jacob sheep wool with cinnamon red alpaca fleece, and is only available in the kit. Accompanying the natural yarn is a hand-dyed mini skein available in your choice of three contrasting colors — orange, yellow and green — to knit the 80s Retro sock design by Belén Fernández, a classic style that perfectly shows off these fun ..read more

Last summer, I was browsing the booths at Shoppe Object, a curated trade show in New York City, when I came across Chelsey Greene Studio. I was immediately taken in by her vibrant jewelry. Many of her pieces looked beaded, but they were actually made of thread, knotted together with micro macrame. Chelsey is based in San Francisco and creates stunning color combinations, including custom styles. Pictured above is her take on the recent Indie Untangled show colorway on her Dylan earring style. Carolyn and Michelle of Olive & Two Ewe have opened their Salinger Pop Club to new ..read more

The next Lyrical Knits mystery knit-along is most sensational, celebrational and inspirational: The Muppet Shawl. The pattern is for a rectangular shawl with several different stitch patterns and a fun twist to the construction at the end. It’s worked up in fingering-weight yarn with one main color and six mini skeins, though it’s possible to do it with fewer contrasting colors.  The first clue drops on March 1, and if you purchase the pattern during the preorder period, you’ll receive a discount as well as a planning sheet with more information on the yarn and color requirements.
