I am seriously at a crossroads with my relationship with drinking and would greatly appreciate some feedback. I’m 25, and been drinking since I’ve been around 17. Immediately hit the ground running and learned many lessons the hard way not being able to control myself or pace. This got sort of better as time went on but I think it’s only because my tolerance is higher, and I still find myself blacking out on big nights out. The frequency of my drinking peaked in college where it was near daily, compounded with weed which I have quit but that’s a different issue entirely. I’m able to have a fe ..read more

I’m getting very worried for my mom.

My mom has been a daily drinker for about 20 years. She has had very few periods of sobriety throughout, and those lasted 1-2 weeks at best. A few years back, she finally acknowledged her alcoholism, but continues to downplay it. She drinks beer and wine. Her minimum is 6 beers or 1 bottle of wine daily, but it is usually significantly more. She isn’t a drunk necessarily, as she usually sips slowly, but she drinks around the clock. 6 years ago, she had a check up. She had “hepatitis” and a fatty liver. She seemed to not understand that alcohol-induced hepatitis exists, despite the fact that a ..read more

So I’ve been dreading the day for years. Putting it off. Years and years of daily drinking, these past couple of years drinking ten beers minimum per night just to manage a standard weekday, much more on weekends, a LOT more at a party, gathering not to mention holidays…. I started cutting down with a pouty face like a spoiled child because I just know this could never work long term and I didn’t even know if it had worked so far. Went to the doctor and laid it all out, no sugarcoating. It’s weird when you know somebody has been working for 50 years but you are still able to shock them and th ..read more

Wrecked my car and got my first arrest in Detroit. Looking for legal advice.

Title says it all. Drove when I shouldn't and wrecked my car. Got arrested for obvious reasons. Been wrestling with knowing I need to stop drinking for good for a couple years. Now I'm convinced. I will be looking into AA meetings. I'm wondering if anyone has advice or referrals for dealing with a first DUI in Detroit. I have no previous record, 43 year old male, working as a bartender and attending college for accounting to change my career. I just want to get this out of my life as soon as possible, both the arrest and drinking. submitted by /u/FrodosLeftTesti [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Any healthier ways to obtain dopamine & other feel good hormones? kind of at a loss :/

i am like 90% sure part of why i have drinking problems is that i have a problem & need for easy-to-obtain dopamine (& similar hormones). i can get easily hooked onto nearly anything that gives me a quick flush of feelings — drinking is one, but things like drugs, pornography & fast food/binge eating as well as some examples. i suspect there may be some mental illnesses at play (i’m diagnosed with depression & complex ptsd, but i’ve suspected something like adhd &/or autism), but i won’t be able to get assessed or hypothetically treated in a long time. i know exercising is ..read more
