Devised by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900's, Pilates is a series of controlled body conditioning exercises which target the deep postural muscles in order to build strength from within. The studio I regularly go to just hired several new teachers that just completed their TT. Is it weird to book random private sessions with the new teachers to experience them as teachers and just support them as they’re starting out? I assume the goal is to build a regular clientele but I already have a standing weekly appointment there that I don’t intent to change.

I am somewhat new to pilates, and go a few times a week. I love what it is doing for my mental health, and seeing my core tighten up is awesome. I used to do powerlifting, it was great for my glutes - But I got burnt out on it and I feel like it was hard on my body. This led to me avoiding the gym for a long time.
I’m enjoying the lower impact element of pilates, and it’s making me look forward to going to the gym again. But, I’m afraid my glutes will never grow or look “round”. I have a more naturally “square” butt, and I am genetically petite and pretty lean.

Doesn’t matter if it’s mat or reformer Pilates whenever we do that move where you lie on your side and lift your leg up or side to side. I get really bad pain in my ankle that makes it hard to keep going.
But it stops as soon as I put my leg down it’s the weirdest thing.
I just want to know if there’s something wrong with me?

Hi all! Getting married in a couple of months and considering if I should do once a week privates at my club Pilates. I’ve only done 160 classes since signing up last August but I try to go at least 5 days a week if I’m in town. I’m finding that I really want to be challenged more, try more advanced moves/progressions and do more targeted toning on problem areas like arms. For group classes, unfortunately they only do a few level 2s a week, it’s mostly just level 1.5. I haven’t tried a 2.5 yet (there’s only one a week I think at 6am) but I’m confident I would be fine. The scheduling is just a ..read more

So I attended beginners Pilates session the other day. It was not what I was expecting. I'm committed. I want to go twice a week. Physically, I was underwhelmed. I know it was just an intro to class so not a real class where I'd probably struggle. Mentally, I struggled a lot. So much thinking. Trying to breathe correctly and to que the right muscles. Didn't realize it was a 45mim core class essentially. I felt it would be similar to yoga, but it's not at all. Yoga is about working to get to a pose. I can kind of flow. Passive focus if you will. Pilates was taking active coordination and thoug ..read more

Hi all. So I’ve just started going to a reformer studio. Today is the third time I’ve gone. One thing I’ve noticed is that I haven’t really been sore after or in the following days, but my muscles have just felt really tired.
Curious if this is normal/good or am I not working hard enough?
