Question on room service and suites

I've wondered what the etiquette is on room service delivery with something like a suite? (never actually been in a suite myself). Unlike a regular room which is an all in one, where you seem likely to hear room service at the door wherever you are, many suite plans I see have just enough space setup that you might not as easily hear someone knocking at the door, especially since there aren't door chimes and stuff. So for those scenarios what's the etiquette? stand there and knock until someone notices? are staff able to (do they even have?) use their keys to enter and announce? do you as a ..read more

Looking for advice at handling overcharge situation

Stayed at an IHG property in Florida, booked two nights back to back, one with a free night certificate, one with points. They had me come down the morning of the second day, "recheck" in and insert my card again, and said I was good to go. Noticed that day that my credit card statement had 3 charges pending, $50, $50, and $70. I recognized the two $50 charges as deposits for the two days, but was unsure about the other charge. When I checked out, I was told by the front desk that I had no additional charges and was good to go. Never got a bill. Called the hotel a few days later after one of ..read more

Reasons why to book direct

Hey guys, I'm working on my blog and writing up reasons to book direct. Would you guys add anything else besides these points? You'll be less likely to be "walked" aka cancelled if they are oversold. If something goes wrong, the hotel is more likely to do something about it. You are dealing with a receptionist who is in front of you and has the ability to do something about it. OTAs use outsourced call centers in another country, when they are busy and you are on the phone for over an hour only to have an agent who barely speaks english not be able to help you out. You'll be able to cancel ..read more

I have been looking at the LinkedIn profiles of various industry leaders recently, and I noticed that they all took courses at eCornell and completed a certificate. I am curious whether these courses were provided by their hotels or if they paid for themselves. submitted by /u/Silver-Stable-8268 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I know this is probably an odd question for this sub, but I decided that for my online community college research writing class that I would do a research paper on the relationship between public transit expansion and hospitality business preformance so... Yeah, I'm weird, what can I say...just if anyone has any links to sites I might not be aware of because they're more niche? submitted by /u/BostonSubwaySlut [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

The borders between sections on my fosse availability screen is just a bunch of Ì’s, when I try to use the availability screen, the letters just fill the screen. Has anyone had this issue before? An associate said It’s been doing this since yesterday. Is there a way to reset fosse to make it go back to normal? submitted by /u/Pretty_little_emery [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Friend had their CC info stolen last week and some rooms booked. I get trying to buy things, but not sure why a thief would book a room at a hotel. Cams, licenses, etc and nothing to resell. Just wondering from you hotel folk why they would do that? submitted by /u/Wildpinkhairuke [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

AGM 36k a year. No GM at all. Working 50+ hours with no other management.

I am an AGM for a brand new Hampton. No GM just me. They are paying me 36k a year. I have limited access to some things. These owners know me very well. They just want to pay as low as they can because they just bought and remodel the property. and said they can’t afford a GM so put me in as an Agm making 36,000 a year. No, I’m putting in over 50 hours a week sometimes much more and dealing with a whole front desk that walked out on me, I literally have to sleep on a cot because I’m so tired to take the 30 minute drive back home and be there in four more hours. I’m on vacation now have a meet ..read more

Updating Hotel Description on Google Profile

I bought a vintage motel which we have completely renovated. We took over the existing Google Profile and there is a section under the rates (when viewed as user not manager) titled "Hotel Details" that is out of date, and poorly reflects on our property. This property was previously very primitive as the rooms hadn't been renovated since the 1940s, but they are as modern as any major brand today, however this section still has the old description and I can't find where to update it. Every other detail I am able to edit from the profile manager's section, but can not find where to update this ..read more
