As part of my 2023 lawn care plan, I hired an aerator machine so that I could get over my 80m2 lawn without spending too much time doing it manually.
I did it in February, and that’s mainly because I was keen to get going with my lawn care improvement plan asap so it will look really nice really early in the season.
But timing is everything when it comes to aerating and thus getting the most out of your investment.
So in this post, I’m telling you everything about my own experience. I’ll tell you the different options, costs and things to think about when planning your own hire. I’ll even disc ..read more

This year is an ambitious year for me and my lawn. I’ve had 3 years of of a beautiful sward. With minimal scarification and just about keeping on top of the 4 seasonal feeds.
But
It’s in the shade. It has deciduous trees next to it. Meaning drainage is poor. Light is low.
Now it’s time for a little extra TLC. The moss has returned with vengeance and I’m about to embark on my most intense moss busting programme EVER.
So, below I’m giving you the exact plan (with dates) of when I expect to apply different products and how much of each will go down.
Then you can read about each product or task in ..read more

It’s absolutely essential that liquid fertiliser and liquid weed killers need to be applied evenly across your lawn. To do so, you’re going to need either a watering can (+ sprinkle bar attachment), a hand-held sprayer or even a knapsack sprayer.
So, in this article I’m going through why, when and how you would use each of the above. I’ll touch on pricing and value of each too.
If you’re spraying weed killer or liquid fertiliser and your lawn is over 50m2 then you’ll definitely benefit from buying a sprayer. What’s more, if the area you’re covering is less than 50m2 then you’ll most likely ben ..read more

Spraying weed killer on your lawn or any where in the garden shouldn’t be taken lightly. The active ingredient in weed killer, usually called glyphosate, is a strong chemical and needs care when being used.
So, in this article I’m explaining which types of weed killer are available for use on lawns. You can also read about when you should or shouldn’t be spraying them and how often.
Before I go into it though, I need to tell you that I ALWAYS recommend removing weeds by hand. And if you don’t have loads of weeds to get rid of, then simply use a herbicide once, then look after your lawn throug ..read more

Iron sulphate is a widely used product on lawns. It is, of course, known for its strength in controlling or killing moss. That’s not all though, it can also help grass with photosynthesis, meaning it will help give it a nice green colour while adding some much-needed nutrients into the soil.
While it’s a widely used product, there are some precautions to take when using it on your lawn at home. Not least, using the correct amount in the correct form.
It’s also important to know which products can and can’t be used alongside it. Or knowing how long to wait after overseeding before using iron s ..read more
