Being part of the Bournemouth University (BU) community begins when you first apply to be a student, throughout your studies and even after you have graduated. Embarking on my journey at BU, the sense of community began long before arriving as a student. From receiving your application, BU welcomes you into its community, sending emails about upcoming events. I had a campus tour and was invited to an orientation day before becoming a student at BU, which helped me when arriving as a first-year student. For freshers, BU offers events facilitating integration, making new friends, and transition ..read more

I became much happier when I started putting myself out there and getting involved with clubs and societies. In my second year I joined Film Society, Nerve Radio, and The Bournemouth Tab– a local student journalism platform, and each improved my life in so many ways. I joined the Film Society last year, and became President ..read more

The number one worry for any student is usually making sure they have enough money to support themselves during their studies. Settling into university life Starting university, you quickly realise that it forces a level of independence and responsibility, which can be a massive change from home and for some students, a newfound sense of freedom. It is easy to get carried away with the late nights and lie-ins. I found that by the first few months, sleeping-in most days meant that I had missed making the most of Bournemouth. I cannot stress how much I think I would have benefitted, had I gotten into better habits earlier on. Students underestimate sleep, healthy eating and exercise. But soon you realise that you feel b ..read more

One of the highlights for students who join BU every year is Freshers Week! Freshers Week is an opportunity to go out, have fun, take part in activities, and meet new friends! In this blog, I talk about my experience of Freshers Week at BU, including what my expectations were Vs the reality. Before I moved in, I talked with my new housemates about what events were on, and if they would like to go to them. There are a wide range of events around Bournemouth, sometimes on the same day.
