How do you use miniatures in dungeoncrawl games, combat or always?

I've never used miniatures in games, for various reasons, mostly not played traditional dungeoncrawls. I've however played dungeoncrawl boardgames (Descent 2e and 3e) which uses tactical minis. Strongly considered it for D&D 4e because I liked the tactical system, but we were more roleplaying instead of figthing so we quickly moved away from that system. I'm looking into more traditional way of gaming a bit, curious about it, looking at OSR for example, but this question is relevant for... Read more ..read more

5e- Your favorite Fighter maneuvers?

First a question, then a short tale: what are your favorite Fighter maneuvers? Some of them seem outclassed by some others, but I may be overlooking their application in-combat. I ask because a certain scenario came up that let a maneuver I had selected shine, and now I'm contemplating picking up a Fighter level in the future. (Also: can you perform a maneuver even if out of superiority dice? Some say yes as the overall description says the dice "fuel" the maneuvers, others point to the... Read more ..read more

Make Magic Arcane and Occult! What are the secrets?

Consider Avater: the Last Airbender and Legend of Korra. In the first series, Lightning Bending was a secret art taught only in the Fire Nation royal family. One hundred years later it's common enough people cast it all day at the power plant. Most dnd settings assume we're in the later situation. The full list of feats, spells, and more is available to everyone and it's pretty universally known. Even if the levels are lower it's all still common knowledge. But Arcane and Occult are both... 5e- Ceremony spell... have you put it to much use?

From a roleplaying perspective, it seems like a fine spell to have at hand. I'm about to make 8th level with my Life Cleric, and have had this spell in my array since level but never found occasion to use it (same with Magic Circle, in fact.) I know it carries some buffs for folks, and the "alignment correction" feature, to say nothing the marital bonuses. It seems like the real use is making holy water, or lightly buffing another (the granting of a spell to another PC seems like it... Read more ..read more

I'm tempted by this, but the last few releases I've purchased from Wizards have been really quite poor (quality of content, usefulness at the table). It's going to be shite right, and I should just save my pennies (er pounds, er dollars ..read more

This picture, folks... it's driving me nuts. It shows up in quite a few DM's Guild and DrivethruRPG products. For instance, the cover of this adventure: https://preview.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/253211/CCCGOC0101-Tree-Rot Or this druid subclass book: https://preview.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/275293/Druid-Circle-of-the-Warrior Or this book of subclasses: https://www.dmsguild.com/product/348667/Sin-Based-Subclasses But I am completely unable to find out what exactly... I'm fascinated by the idea of planar travel, and particularly what characters can get up to Beyond. And if I want a planar campaign I want Planeswalkers as early as possible, so we can get to the good stuff early. So in a high magic availability, low level world* what kinds of planeswalkers and organizations should we find? *10th is 'among best in the nation' 12th is 'among best in the world' 13th is 'among legends ..read more

[5e] What are the "Most Basic" D&D 5e subclasses?

So, I was thinking about how I would go about introducing Pathfinder 2e players to 5e, and one issue I couldn't help but consider was how many subclasses there are, which might be an overwhelming amount of choices to new players. And to be fair, not only are there a LOT of subclasses, but a bit of a power/feature creep issue has grown with the number of subclasses. Why play a Champion Fighter when you can be an Echo Knight? But in the process, I feel that the core identity of the classes... Read more ..read more
