Let's start with an introduction to how I came to write this. If you're not interested in this background, just skip to the next post in this thread. That's where the "real" Let's read review will start. About five years ago, we managed to get (part of) an old group of roleplayers together again, and started a new campaign. As it had been quite some time since I played (any edition of) D&D, one of my friends started out as Dungeon Master, and we agreed that I would take over after a little... Read more ..read more

How to build an "Invincible Sword Princess" in D&D5e?

For those who aren't longtime rpg.net users, the "Invincible Sword Princess" is a type of character build originating in Exalted (the term itself comes from Zhang Ziyi's character describing herself in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), referring to a Fragile Speedster/Glass Cannon melee fighter - she hits hard and is rarely hit herself, but tends to be fragile if she does get hit. This character archetype can be male, but is more stereotypically female. What's the best way to build... Read more ..read more

Good third party psionics systems for 5th Edition?
RPG.Net » Dungeons & Dragons / Fantasy D20 Spotlight

I've noticed that there's quite a bit of homebrew for adapting psionics to 5th Edition. Matt Colville's Talent class, kibblestasty's Psion class, and the Korranberg Chronicle Psion's Primer are three of the more popular ones I know of. I'm not well-versed in psionics homebrew, so I was wondering if people here had thoughts on the above plus any others I may have missed ..read more

D&D 5th Anniversary Stamps from the Royal Mail

Last year I saw that the US post office was issuing D&D stamps, well the UK's doing it too. I just saw a tweet advertising D&D 50th Anniversary commemorative stamps from the Royal Mail. They will be issued on 25th of July. The tweet: x.com x.com Pre-orders from the Royal Mail website here: Dungeons & Dragons - Special Stamp Issues shop.royalmail.com There's stamps in sheets, limited edition displays and... [5e] How broken is Suggestion?

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I'm utterly incapable of negotiating the search system apparently; feel free to link as an answer if I'm beating a dead horse here. My group is moving up in level, and encountering more spell-caster-y critters as a result. One I'm throwing at them comes with 3 uses of Suggestion per day, and as I'm looking over this spell I realize... it's sort of insane, isn't it? I suppose to some extent it depends on what you define as "reasonable" or... Read more ..read more

[The Electrum Archive] Good modules/adventures to drop in to the World of Orn?

I just picked up The Electrum Archive issues 1 & 2, in PDF form and I'm quite liking it. Really imaginitive science fantasy adventure setting with some pretty tight rules in the lineage of Into the Odd and Cairn. It's some of my absolute favorite class design in all the OSR. If you're curious, you can pick up a free version of the rules here: https://emielboven.itch.io/tea-free-rules For those of you who are familiar with the setting, I'm looking for recomendations modules... Alternate Alternate Covers for D&D One Core Books

I really wish more multi-book core sets followed the example of Jim Holloway's work on the covers of West End Games' Paranoia 1e three books. I love the energy and humor of the inter-linked imagery. I'm sure D&D could afford to do something like that with a different tone. Any other games do something that you'd like to see more of in D&D covers or other art ..read more

Best single-book 5E clone - what is it?

Folks, another thread got me thinking about this. It's frustrating that the "base" investment in D&D 5E requires 3 books. Sure, if you're just a player you can maybe get away with just the PhB, but the DMG has always had material of interest to players, and the Monster Manual was always required if you intended to have any idea what the DM might put you up against. And Hasbro/WotC/TSR has long intended it to be the case that even most players would end up buying at least the 3 book set, just... Read more ..read more

[Forgotten Realms] Are there any published fantasy settings with sentient dinosaur people suitable to use for the homeworld of the Saurials?

I know there’s a few bestiaries of dinosaurs and player’s guides to play sentient dinosaur folk, but I’m wondering if there’s any actual published campaign settings out there? I don’t think I want one where humans are co-existent with dinosaurs. I’m not sure if the Saurial homeworld would have humans on it. Maybe it could work if the humans were a primitive society. There’s a book I need to read called West of Eden to get some ideas ..read more

Am I being too hard on D&D 5e?
RPG.Net » Dungeons & Dragons / Fantasy D20 Spotlight

So I have had some problems trying to get a game going on at my house. One of the problems is my location as I am apparently too far away for most people. The other problem is because it seems that most ads I see for gaming is for a D&D 5e game. That's the problem, I am not crazy about D&D 5e but I'm like the only one. It's kind of like being in a town full of bars but they all only sell Budweiser. I mean I like Budweiser but don't want just that. However, when I suggest anything... Read more ..read more
