5e Multiverse Game?

So I was just sitting here thinking about stuff and watching movies and an idea hit me of having a game where adventurers from different worlds/time periods/genres, etc were pulled together and forced to work together to figure out how to get home. At first I was like "Okay, I'd need a universal game, like GURPS, or Savage Worlds." but honestly, not the hugest fan of those. The characters just wouldn't feel different enough for me, but then I was like "But 5e has a setting book for almost... Read more ..read more

Monsters You Love So Much You Have To Fix Them

We've all got them - the monster manual entry that gets in your head, because it's such a cool idea but they didn't do it right! This goes double, of course, when there's something which could have been a lot of fun to play with except that the original material is racist as heck. Drow leap to mind, enough that we have several excellent threads on fixing them. But other beasties deserve the same treatment, and that's what we're here for ..read more

Learning Pathfinder 2e

Okay, due to circumstances*, I'm about to start up a new game with my nephew, my son, and any of their friends that they can recruit (teenagers all, probably from 14-17 when they game actual starts). For reasons**, I'm going to go with Pathfinder 2e. I've bought the Beginner Box and received mixed feedback on the adventure ("it's a railroad", "you need a railroad for your first game"). I expect that for most of the players it won't be their first game (certainly not for nephew or son) and... Read more ..read more

(5e) Super powers as feats: My hero Academia (PEACH)

Okay, so if you have been following my Tales of Arcana WIR, you know that A) I just covered the Superion entry, and B) there is a race in that book that are basically X men mutants, and their "Super power" is just an extra feat. So i decided using that as a basis I would create some super powers as feats. And I decided to start with the My Hero Academia class of 1A kids because it seems like a good starting point as any. So lets get started, any suggestions or notes are, as always... Read more ..read more

Need some modern terminology help

Hi folks. This thread (https://forum.rpg.net/index.php?threads/some-thoughts-on-racism-in-the-monster-manual-5e.906715/) got me thinking about terminology in my own game. (It's a small published computer game based on classic role playing games I played in the 1980s and 1990s.) A while back I realized that "race" wasn't a good way to refer to dwarves, elves etc, and switched to "creature type". The proper word would be "species", but I find "type" much easier to say, and I'm pretty... Read more ..read more

Trying to remember a weird ape monster

So, I randomly remembered this one creature, published in either second or third edition (maybe both). It was an arboreal ape (or maybe a monkey? some kind of primate at least) with these seemingly random spell-like-abilities, I think it had, like, magic missile and web or something. I remember some whacky detail about them using web to create hammocks to sleep in. Google hasn't helped me. Anyone remember this thing ..read more

Recommend Hex Map Tools

I'd like to able to build a hex map for my upcoming Beyond the Wall game, and I am ignorant and not tech saavy. What's hex map tools would you recommend to a relatively intelligent golden retriever? I think I'm looking for something that is easy to use, web based and free. Bonus points for looking cool ( for the times I will shars parts of it with the players). I could also break out my asks into seperate questions: Which ones are easy to use? Which ones are free or cheap... Read more ..read more

[Eberron] Revising Q'Barra by flipping the script and Spelljamming it

A couple recent discussions regarding the depiction of various species in D&D got me thinking about Q'Barra again. It's one of the Eberron setting elements in particular that is looking increasingly shaky: it was imagined as a frontier space for telling stories inspired by Westerns, and so it's inherited the problems associated with that. You have settlers rushing to colonize a piece of land, stripping it of resources (Dragonshards), and fighting with a non-human native population that are... Read more ..read more

Okay, I just picked up the three books of this after hearing about it on the support for third party thread. And I have to say I really like what I see: * A Jekyll and Hyde style Barbarian Subclass (Which I really REALLY wish I had for my last campaign because that is literally what I was playing). *Transformations similar to the ones from Pathfinder Horror Adventures (And gives me an idea of how to convert that one over). Even better they give some non evil options, like becoming an... Read more ..read more

The OGL and Forging Elven Rings – We Appear to Have Three Options

Some TTRPG publishers are hoping continued pushback will save the original license and perhaps it will. Various others are already adapting systems to dilute or remove traces of WotC. Pathfinder is part of ORC but seems likely to have a license specific to Pathfinder, while Swords and Wizardry appears to be looking to have a license that thins down potential WotC content. Others are going for full rewrites removing lots of terms and replacing classes. I’m keeping an eye on all three options... Read more ..read more
