Malar Bags - How I got rid of mine

Malar bags are the hangy bags to the side of under eye bags. They have variations called festoons. You can guess what they look like. The name compares them to curtains. When I looked in the mirror ( image below from 2014 ) I thought my eye bags made me look tired, and lop-sided. This made me self conscious - not wanting to be seen without glasses to hide them On my YouTube channel I've more views on Malars than any other video. To date - 61,000. . The second image is of me this year 2021. I have had filler on my frown lines - nothing but an application of common sense on my eye bags ! Before ..read more

Can I really be excited by Beetroots?

Yes! Some research came out from the University of Exeter this week that used the juice I actually drink and love. (James White organic) It said that if I had 70ml twice a day ( about a wine glass in total) I'd end up brighter. 'Improved cognitive function'. I checked to see if James White beetroot juice suppliers had financed it - but no, no declarations of interest! https://doi.org/10.1016/j.redox.2021.101933 My granny born in Russia in 1880 used to say that 'beetroot makes blood'. Its interesting how often science confirms traditional beliefs. Here's what they say that actually translates ..read more

Malar Bags - 2014 to 2021 - how I dealt with them

Malar bags are the hangy bags to the side of under eye bags. They have variations called festoons. When I looked in the mirror I thought my eye bags made me look tired, and lop-sided. On my YouTube channel I've more views on Malars than any other video. Before 2014 & After 2021 They upset me so much. I believe in showing us like we are - no editing - and here's me not taking off my glasses incase they showed. On the right of my face was a thing like a worm crawling across my face towards my ear. As you'll hear in the video I stopped all eye creams and oils. I used a rose water to skim ..read more

Can sun tan cream stop the clock?
Natural Beauty Brains

Will sun tan cream stop me getting older? People rightly object to ageism like any other prejudice - pre-judging according to age. Ageism is the assumption that: a) age-ing means something unattractive is happening to me as I get older. b) that by doing, or not doing something I can stop it. At some stage somebody is going to say 'don't do X -its ageing'. Like my next birthday will come quicker if I do this thing? Cosmetic claims are the worst for promoting negative stereotypes of ageing. Look at this nicely packaged Lacura hydrating sun spray. It says "protects against long term skin ageing ..read more

Mirrors do you good says new Japanese study!
Natural Beauty Brains

Good news!! Japanese researchers have found that looking in the mirror does do me good! "Researchers have found that the subliminal presentation of images of one's own face activates a central component of the dopamine reward pathway, thus illuminating the mechanisms behind our powerful ability to automatically prioritize processing of our own face." Normal words: If I look in the mirror without actually doing it deliberately ( subliminally) I get a 'high'. This ‘high’ will show me I like looking at my own face best. I keep a mirror by me as I work "These findings have important implications ..read more

When the gym shut down I was afraid of losing muscles Ocean wave Pilates class in Hove My back in lock down. I’ve worked on my muscles since I was 20 so giving it up for lock down isn’t on. In London at LSE I joined a tough looking gym in Marble Arch; bought iron boots and home weights and never used either. Then I wanted to show women can be as strong as men. I watched the guys and copied. Doing their style squats I got myself thighs bigger than I wanted, but I did it. I don’t agree that being ‘older’ means getting weaker. Its lack of activity. I’m zoom training three times a week in lockdo ..read more

How my house plants talk to me
Natural Beauty Brains

How my house plants talk to me I prefer indoor-nature to walking around in the open air. Sometimes I have to be firm with people that I have a right not-to-like the outdoors.  I often find outdoors physically uncomfortable. In the winter its cold. In the summer I get concerned for my skin when its too hot. My ideal is the sort of weather that, if it were warm water, would be the right temperature for a baby’s bath. Just once - I found this in Bangkok.  As I spend more time indoors its the house plants inspiring me with determination, creativity, communication. They send me messages ..read more
