Truth Be Told: Sharing a Biblical Worldview in a Secular Culture
Real Life, Real Faith
by Sarah Sisson Rollandini

**WARNING: This post comes from a biblical worldview. According to Barna, only 4% of Americans and 9% of "born again Christians" hold a biblical worldview. A new research study from Barna Group suggests that a large share of the nation’s moral and spiritual challenges is directly attributable to the absence of a biblical worldview among Americans. If you are not a person with a biblical worldview, you may find this post offensive. The true Gospel is offensive to sinful human beings--including ME! However, as offensive as God's truth may be, Christians are not excused from telling it as foll ..read more

Real Women: Please Stand Up
Real Life, Real Faith
by Sarah Sisson Rollandini

March is Women's History Month and there has never been a more important time to celebrate real women. In case there is any doubt, I'm talking about spotlighting and throwing confetti over adult human females who have inspired us womenfolk and pointed us toward the uncommon qualities of the wisdom and virtue of our sex. For me, this means honoring courageous historic examples of Christian women like Mother Teresa, Amy Carmichael, and Fanny Crosby, as well as contemporary heroes like Janet Parshall, Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth, and Monique Duson. Unfortunately, forces in our 21st century culture co ..read more

6 Ways to Have a Mary Christmas (when you're feeling more like Scrooge!)
Real Life, Real Faith
by Sarah Sisson Rollandini

As a child, I never got to play the Virgin Mary in our church Christmas pageant. Yep, I always played an angel in the chorus, never the starring role of Baby Jesus' adoring mom. My inability to land the part seemed more than mere coincidence when I hit a wall in my late twenties called "infertility". As thankful as I was for Jesus giving up heaven to hang out with us on earth - to save us from our steaming pile of sin - I was less than thankful for Christmas' focus on the virgin birth. Even with a willing husband and a team of specialists, I hadn't been able to achieve "with child" status. N ..read more

The Gift of Waiting
Real Life, Real Faith

We are smack dab in the middle of the most wonderful time of the year. Stores are decked in glossy red and green while speakers blare bright tunes of expectation. Homes once darkened now dance with twinkling lights, their windows aglow with warmth and promise. And, as believers, we cannot escape the image of a beatific, round-bellied virgin. Oh, the irony. As an infertile person, one can feel like a cardboard cutout amidst all the activity, a black-and-white character frozen in a Technicolor landscape. It’s tough to sync our unanswered prayers with the jubilation swirling around us. We watch ..read more

Ooooh, the enneagram. The word seems either super mystical or super hip, depending on what you know (or don't know) about it. So let's have a quick class, shall we? What the enneagram is not: A tool of the occult, a quick fix, a solution to all of your problems, a trendy, Buzzfeed-style personality typing test that deludes you into thinking you are a superstar. What the enneagram is: A personality profile that can help you better understand how you relate to self, others, and the world. There now. Up to speed, are we? I was introduced to the enneagram by various favorite podcasters, includin ..read more

When Christmas is Over
Real Life, Real Faith

I don't know about you, but every year I slump into a post-Christmas mini-depression. After months of preparation--decking the halls, schlepping to parties, baking pumpkin bread and cookies, eating a year's worth of carbs in a month, jamming to Pandora's Holiday Favorites, shopping for the best deals, wrapping and opening gifts--the weeks following December 25th fall dismally flat. What was all the hoopla about anyway? The bright lights and shiny packages seemed only to serve as a temporary distraction from our inner malaise. Enter Matthew West's song, Day After Christmas, whose lyrics remind ..read more
