3 Humbling Truths About Comparison and Waiting

A recent sporting event reminded me why comparing our seasons of waiting against others can often rob us of compassion and connection, and ultimately can rob us of Living in the Wait. Lessons from a National Championship Football Game I recently went to the FCS National Championship Football Game where my favorite team, the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits played and won!  After the game, I found myself thinking about the players. From the press before and after the season, it was clear this was something they’ve been dreaming, training, practicing and waiting for long ..read more

I’m in awe, friends. Absolute awe of what can happen: When you’re obedient to God’s prompting. When you’re willing to take a risk. When you’re willing to share your story. When you’re willing to be vulnerable. When you’re willing to be brave. While I knew I was about to embark on something bigger than myself from the moment God planted the seed of Living in the Wait, I never knew where it would take me. Year five brought much growth. Many opportunities, risks, and connections were made and I’m excited to see where the obedience in taking them will lead Living in the Wait, you and myself. Here ..read more

Three Words to Summarize 2022
Living In The Wait Blog
by Melissa

I’ve always enjoyed words and the power they have to describe our feelings, their ability to encourage others, and change lives. In 2018, I started a tradition of closing out the year by sharing three words to describe it and found it fitting to continue! My favorite part about this tradition is reflecting back on the year as a practice of gratitude and thankfulness. While we may have many feelings associated with each year we live, taking time to sit with all that happened can be a healing and deepening experience. What three words would you choose to describe your year? Surprise I love ..read more

While I’m not currently navigating infertility, it doesn’t change how important National Infertility Awareness Week is to me. Infertility will always be a part of my story. Therefore, I want to continue raising awareness and having discussions to help others navigate infertility. #wecanall This year’s theme is #wecanall… Be a part of the conversation by sharing our stories. Change the narrative by stating that infertility is an experience, not our identity. Provide an empathetic and compassionate ear to those we know navigating this exhausting journey. Use our voices to create change from wi ..read more

Happy 4th Anniversary Living in the Wait

I was picking up sticks in my yard.  It was a typical, late Fall day, which meant winter was just around the corner.  It was a cold afternoon; the wind was blowing and the leaves were falling. The weather was an accurate picture of how I felt inside. My husband and I were outside doing yard work. Broken branches and sticks covered the ground, reminding me of how it felt having to wait year after year, after year to become a mom. This is where Living in the Wait began, four years ago this week. While the wait that started it all for me was to have a family, waiting is universal.&nb ..read more

An adventure with my wedding ring reminded me about waiting and the reasons we talk ourselves out of the new God has waiting for us, if only we’re willing to let go of the old. The Jeweler I was due to have my wedding rings re-dipped and cleaned. Jewelers recommend doing this every 6 month to preserve the ring quality. They use this time to check the diamonds health and look for any other potential issues. It’s a necessary process to keep your ring in good condition, which ultimately, extends its life. Anyone who’s dropped off their ring at the jeweler knows this is not a quick process, requir ..read more

In 2018, I started a tradition of closing out the year by sharing three words to describe it and found it fitting to continue! You don’t need me to remind you that 2021 was a year like no other. We’re continuing to navigate our daily lives while living in the midst of a pandemic. While this is true, we can also reflect back and see what it brought us while looking forward to a fresh start in 2022. Bold I’m not one to typically pick a word for the year, but God ..read more

I’ll be the first to admit I’m embarrassed to be seen starting small. I want to be a pro at all things from day one. And yet, a new month has me back at the starting line, needing to start small to find encouragement. Starting Small Have you ever been afraid to be seen starting small? A Plant, a Water Main and a Chance to Bloom

I used to work for an alumni association and had the fun opportunity to network with people from all over the country. I’ve connected with many people during my alumni association days, but one gentleman, who I named Grandpa Carl, came to mind last week. Bloom Where You’re Planted I was out walking and saw this plant growing from an unusual spot. A quote Grandpa Carl would always tell me instantly came to mind: “Bloom Where You’re Planted.” I’m all for blooming, but I want it to happen in a place that I get to pick. You know, someplace that’s pretty, shaded, and easily accessible. Not some ra ..read more

E+DAY July 2021 – How Your Story Can Encourage Others
Living In The Wait Blog

One of the main reasons I started Living in the Wait was to share my story in hopes of bringing encouragement to someone else navigating a similar journey. So many have shared their own stories with me and each one taught me so much and most of all, encouraged me. Your Story Can Encourage Others The dream to write a book has been roaming around in my heart for a few years now. When Living in the Wait first started, the idea to write a book became more of a reality, but one without much action. Much has happened since the seed of writing a book was planted and here I am, with my first book set ..read more
