The Play-In seeding is set. The late-season struggles of the Sacramento Kings landed them 9th in the Western Conference, in the bottom half of the Play-In bracket. Since the Kings haven’t been in the Play-In before, I thought it would be beneficial to do a quick review of how it works, as well as the ramifications on Sacramento’s draft pick this year. The Kings will start on Tuesday with a game against the Golden State Warriors, in a chance to avenge themselves after last year’s playoff loss. This is a one game matchup. The winner moves on, the loser’s season is over. If the Kings win against ..read more

For players selected in the NBA Draft, the subsequent days can be hectic. After finding out they were selected by the Sacramento Kings on Thursday night, Colby Jones and Jalen Slawson had already made their way to Sacramento by Monday. Later that night, they had dinner with head coach Mike Brown along with other members of the staff. Tuesday morning, they met some teammates, most notably De'Aaron Fox, before making their way to their introductory press conferences alongside general manager Monte McNair. For both of these players, they were accomplishing a dream and watching it slowly become re ..read more

Sacramento Kings select Jalen Slawson with pick 54
The Kings Herald » NBA Draft

With the 54th pick in the NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings selected Jalen Slawson, a 6'7" forward from Furman. Slawson was a 5th-year senior who averaged 15. 6 points per game, 7.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and shot 39% from 3. Beyond that, I'll be honest, we don't know much about this kid. I'm sure we'll learn more in the days and weeks to come, but at this point we don't have a lot of in-depth analysis. What I can say is that Slawson is an older rookie and presumably a more complete player and not a project. He may be able to provide some wing depth, he has good size. Aside from that, time will ..read more

Our Draft expert Bryant West had Jones 28th on his Kings-centric big board: 28. Colby Jones, Wing, Xavier, 21 years old, 6'6 Jones is a two-way floor riser who will fit on any good team. Jones had an excellent balance ..read more

Sacramento Kings trade Richaun Holmes and Olivier-Maxence Prosper to Dallas Mavericks

The Sacramento Kings have traded the 24th pick in the draft, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, and Richaun Holmes to the Dallas Mavericks. Kings are sending Holmes into the Traded Player Exception created with the OKC trade. https://t.co/L2qVZoQnvA — Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) June 23, 2023 The move opens up the option for the Kings to have up to $30 million in cap space in free agency. We will continue to update as more details become known, but as of right now it appears this move was a straight cap dump to get off Holmes' contract. Whether this is a good move or not will depend entirely on what ..read more

It’s Draft Day!

The 2023 NBA Draft kicks off this evening at 4:30 PM PT, meaning Victor Wembanyama will be announced as the first overall pick somewhere around 4:45 or 5:00 PM PT. From there Sacramento Kings fans will, barring a trade, wait a couple hours before the Kings are on the clock with the 24th pick. Feels a bit different this year, right? After a decade and a half of dwelling in the lottery, it's a nice problem to have. The Kings are no longer seeking a savior, but instead looking for a player who can make an NBA roster and provide depth or trade fodder. That's not to say you can't find a star with a ..read more

The following is a guest post from longtime community member SPTSJUNKIE. Be sure to check out his fantastic work, and pop over to his new site! Draft season is once again upon us and we have inched one step closer to the apocalypse as the Kings don’t have a lottery pick.  And not due to incompetence or over-estimating the impact that Marco Belinelli would have on our playoff odds, but due to actual… competence and savvy? It’s a new emotion and a new day for Kings fans.  And with that new emotion, comes the dawning of a new site for my draft content.  I’m excited to announce that ..read more

Bryant West’s 2023 NBA Draft Big Board
The Kings Herald » NBA Draft

The 2023 NBA Draft is here, and things are different in Sacramento this time around. After directing the Kings to their first playoff appearance in 16 years, Monte McNair and his front office hold the 24th, 38th, and 54th pick in the draft. Gone is the need for the Kings to draft saviors in the lottery. For the first time in nearly two decades, the Sacramento organization may just have the infrastructure, roster depth, and coaching staff in place that would allow them to be patient with all their young rookies, without the need to find an immediate contributor. But that isn’t to say that the K ..read more
