The Hawks are at a crossroads right now, and I don’t think they have an identity. However, the Athletic has a few interesting choices for them in a way-too-early mock draft: Outside of the top two selections — which seem relatively set in stone with Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson — this NBA Draft class figures to be a bit of a question mark still. @Sam_Vecenie's latest mock draft: https://t.co/6gezbop8Ui pic.twitter.com/Vji7YNGdNk — The Athletic (@TheAthletic) January 12, 2023 Sam Vecenie has the Hawks taking Anthony Black and Ricky Council IV out of Arkansas: 11. The 2022 NBA Draft has come and gone. Now it’s time for the offseason, where we tackle free agency, watch the Knicks miss out on a star player, and see which productive player the Kings will inexplicably trade. It’s one of the best times of the year! Let’s grade some winners and losers from what turned out to be a surprisingly interesting draft. Winners Detroit Pistons  The Pistons struck oil by having Ivey fall into their lap (more on that in a second), and other than securing a possible franchise point guard, they acquired a young center in Jalen Duren after the Hornets drafted him with ..read more

Meet Hawks second round pick Tyrese Martin
SportsTalkATL » NBA Draft

I was a big fan of Atlanta’s first round pick AJ Griffin. I didn’t think he would fall to 16, but much like Jalen Johnson in 2021, a Duke product with tons of talent fell right into the lap of Travis Schlenk. However, Atlanta’s second-rounder is worth taking a closer look at as well. Like Griffin, Tyrese Martin comes from a basketball blueblood in UConn and gained a lot of steam in the pre-draft process due to his interviews and testing. Tyrese Martin was lone Big East player selected in this year's NBA Draft. — David Borges (@DaveBorges) June 24, 2022 The Hawks will select UConn’s Tyrese M ..read more

Hawks: Will AJ Griffin’s role mirror that of Jalen Johnson’s rookie year?

When the Hawks selected Jalen Johnson out of Duke with the No. 20 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Travis Schlenk landed a lottery-esque caliber prospect using a best-player-available philosophy. However, with both John Collins and Danilo Gallinari in the fold, playing time was going to be hard to come by. Johnson only appeared in 22 games with the Hawks while playing in 12 games with the club’s G League affiliate, the College Park Skyhawks. With them, he averaged 20.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, 4.1 assists per game, 1.7 blocks per game, and 1.3 steals per game. He was pretty efficient too, canning 37 ..read more

Hawks: AJ Griffin can be a championship piece

Last night, the Atlanta Hawks snagged AJ Griffin with the 16th pick in the NBA Draft. The 6’6”, 222-pound forward out of Duke brings a lot to the table, including elite three-point shooting and lockdown defense. Welcome to Atlanta, AJ! Most pundits had the 18-year-old in the top 10 of their mock drafts, so I doubted the Hawks could get him without trading up. However, Griffin did end up landing in the Hawks’ lap. Hawks select Duke F AJ Griffin with the 16th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft

As I predicted in my Hawks Mock Draft 1.0, AJ Griffin is headed to Atlanta: Atlanta is focused on Duke's AJ Griffin at No. 16, sources tell ESPN. — Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) June 24, 2022 Here’s what I had to say about Griffin: Round 1, Pick 16: F AJ Griffin — Duke I was shocked to see AJ Griffin available here — but the same could be said about another Blue Devil in Jalen Johnson last draft. Griffin had a slow-ish start to the season, but he was still recovering from injury. I’m on record saying that I think he will have a better career than his teammate and potential number o ..read more

The Hawks have been involved in a lot of trade rumors — too many to count — but this one should excite everyone who cheers for Atlanta’s basketball team. According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the Hawks and Spurs have discussed a blockbuster trade that would send John Collins to San Antonio with Dejounte Murray going to the Hawks. Atlanta and San Antonio have discussed a deal that would swap John Collins for Dejounte Murray, sources said. Spurs have told interests teams that moving Murray would require a "Jrue Holiday-like package." More league-wide trade notes @BR_NBA: https://t.co/Q0 ..read more
