Pai is a little gem of a town located in Mae Hong Son province, about 150 km from Chiang Mai. The trip to Pai is famous for its 762 winding curves, which can be challenging for some travelers. Known as a hippie village, Pai is popular among backpackers for its laid-back and peaceful vibe. The small town center is perfect for enjoying street food and drinks in one of the many bars at night. @iqbaleydatoula Pai in the north of Thailand, the town center is animated at night. Bangkok! Mighty Bangkok! Even if you find the city overwhelming, it’s impossible not to be impressed by its sheer vibrancy. Though I’m not typically a city person, I find myself drawn to Bangkok’s local neighborhoods and the unique microcosms that each street offers. Exploring these areas, you’ll discover a fascinating blend of culture and daily life, each with its own rhythm and charm. However, after three days of diving into the city’s relentless energy and constant street noise, I often feel the need to escape. With a population of 11 million, it’s no wonder Bangkok can feel overwhelming ..read more

I visited Sukhothai in 2019 and went back two more times, last time being November 2023 during the Loi Krathong celebrations. The Loi Krathong was celebrated November 18th to 27th in the Sukhothai’s Historical Park. It was magical. Outside celebrations, Sukhothai Historical Park is a must visit. Sukhothai is about 6 hours away by bus from Chiang Mai. You can also take the train to Phitsanulok then less than an hour bus to get to Sukhothai. There is the city side and the old town full of historical traces during the golden years of the kingdom or Sukhothai. I spent a few days cycling in the b ..read more

Outdoor Adventures in Chiang Mai: My Personal Favorites

Chiang Mai is my favorite place to visit. Almost every year, I come back to this charming city for one to three months. Besides the delicious food and the old town alleys, I love all the activities I can do by myself around the city. Chiang Mai has beautiful backcountry roads, perfect for cycling. You can see flower farms, rice paddies, restaurants in the middle of fields, or small village houses. One nice route is from the Old City to Mae Rim through the ‘hidden village,’ about 15 km. Another route goes to the ruins of Wiang Kum Kam through the South Gate. If you’re very fit, you can cycle u ..read more

Chiang Mai has remained my top choice for travel up to this point. I first came across the city in 2013 and have returned seven times since then. As Thailand’s second largest city, it boasts a rich Lanna culture that captivates me. I enjoy getting lost in the maze of alleys within the ancient walls, always finding new treasures to explore. The atmosphere in the old city is laid-back, embodying a ‘take it easy’ way of life. Chiang Mai is home to numerous Buddhist temples waiting to be discovered both in and around the city. I take pleasure in exploring the night markets, a popular attraction a ..read more

I visited Vietnam in 2017 during the rainy season. I landed at Saigon/Ho Chi Minh airport on a rainy day and took a taxi to the city center. Unfortunately, our hotel was in a narrow lane that cars couldn’t enter. We had to walk to the hotel with our suitcases, getting completely soaked and our luggage wet! While in Ho Chi Minh City, we went on a couple of tours. After that, we moved to beautiful Hoi An. What a lovely experience! Hoi An is more rural and home to the UNESCO-protected old town, which is so picturesque. I cycled through the countryside to find even more beautiful spots outside th ..read more

For me, Kuala Lumpur (KL) serves as a convenient transit point for my travels across Southeast Asia. I usually fly into KL from my home country and then take Air Asia to reach my destination. While KL may not captivate me as much as Bangkok, it offers enough to make my brief stays enjoyable. I typically stay near KL Sentral, the city’s central transportation hub. From KL Sentral, you can easily access trains, the KLIA express, monorails, and buses, all within the convenience of a connected mall. KL’s bustling streets provide a pleasant walking experience, with a blend of tourist attractions a ..read more

I decided to travel to Cambodia primarily to experience the enchanting Angkor Wat and also as a way to renew my visa for another 30 days in Thailand. My trip was truly memorable, with Angkor Wat leaving a lasting impression on me. The people of Siem Reap are renowned for their gentle and humble nature. Communication with locals may present challenges, but employees at restaurants and bars typically speak English. Affordable options for food, drinks, lodging, and transportation make it a cost-effective destination. I was fascinated by the ancient ruins in Siem Reap and our private tuk-tuk excu ..read more
