Border Tolls In MA?

A proposal was floated last week by Bay State Transportation Secretary Monica Tibbits-Nutt about adding tolls to the state’s borders as a way to fund transit systems throughout Massachusetts. The idea was met with backlash including backlash from NH Gov. Chris Sununu, who did not take too kindly to the idea saying it was another way to “unnecessarily take your money.” MA Gov. In 1983 then Governor Michael Dukakis signed the state’s “right to shelter” law in Massachusetts. The law requires the Commonwealth to provide shelter and other necessities to “needy families with children and pregnant women with no other children.” That law has now been interpreted to include migrants arriving here in MA.
