WHAT AGE IS OLD? ARE YOU THERE YET?

I have often wondered when we officially get old.  Is there a magic number that says that you have reached this milestone?  Is the magic number 65 when society tells you that you can retire? Is it 50?  Maybe it is 72 when you can get the full amount of your social security (if you are lucky enough to have social security). There have always been age rules that have been set in place.  Sometimes, society or the government picks the number.  Society/government can give you a number to legally marry, join the military, buy liquor, and do other things. At one time, the go ..read more

Wow, it’s a new year.  What are you going to do in 2024?  Are you writing it down?  Creating a vision board? Putting it in a journal? If you are doing any of the above, it’s great; if you aren’t, it’s also great.  Remember, we are women of a certain age and don’t fit a particular pattern. As they say, “There is more than one way to skin a cat.”  I’m not sure what they mean, but it sounds good. Look back at 2023.  What did you do in 2023 that was on your list?  Did you accomplish what you stated at the first of the year? Were you able to cross off any of your ..read more

Our work life may have changed, with some of us retiring, some going back to work, or starting a new career.  Travel, whether near or far, was experienced by some. There may have been new additions to our families which always makes our hearts sm ..read more

You Are Worth A Hundred XOXO–Self-Care And More
This is Your Best Year

Have you noticed that it seems complicated for women of a certain age to learn how to do self-care?  When we were younger, there were the kids who had to be taken care of; they needed this and that.  Sometimes, it was the spouse that was the one that you took care of.  For those who worked outside the home, it was a juggling act where we seemed to always drop the one ball labeled “me.” As we have matured, we still find ourselves juggling–some are still into careers, starting new careers, taking care of grown children, raising a second set of children (grandchildren), volunteerin ..read more

I remember telling my students that the body’s flexibility decreases as we age, making simple tasks a little harder.  They weren’t having any of it.  Remember, they were high school students.  Some of them told me and showed me they could do a split, touch their toes, and many other things. I told them to think about babies.  Think about how flexible they are.  They can put their toes in their mouth (I never have understood why they do this, but they do). I had a few that said they could but were unwilling to show us–because they couldn’t. As we mature, we find that we ..read more
