Screw terminal and ne555 pin layout

I am new to both PCB stuff and KiCad. I wanted to try some circuits to get used to KiCad. I wanted to make a circuit with 555 timer in astable and use a potentiometer to change the frequency of the output square signal. I don't have batteries to supply 5v so I wanted to use a external 5V input supllied by an Arduino with jumpers. So I used those screw terminals. I don't know if its the right why to do it tho. Another problem I encountered is that pin layout of 555 timer looks weird. It's not in order and it makes make circuit look confusing after connetcions. Is there a way to fix it ? s ..read more

KiCad downloads libraries in every reopen

I am new to KiCad, whenever I start a new project or open the schematic of a project of mine, when I click on "Add symbol" it downloads libraries again and it takes around 5 minutes to download them all. It doesn't matter if its a new project or old. Everytime I reopen the schematic and try to add something its downloads again. Is there a way to fix it or should I wait for it to download again and again everytime I open the project. Thank you submitted by /u/No-Construction7807 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Light theme in KDE Fedora 40

When I updated KDE Fedora 39 to Fedora 40, KiCad 8.0.2 is in light theme. I am trying to find how to get it back to Dark theme. Is anyone else facing the same issue? (PS. The issue is with the flatpak version of KiCad, there is no issue with the Fedora dnf version) https://preview.redd.it/1nkar8xrz30d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=436b95f1ce379ef511c4ff7467d0531baedbdfa2 submitted by /u/srkr_bhrdwj [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Question about .lck files generated in Kicad 8.01

First. I've been worked in Kicad 7.1 until last week and recently I installed Kicad 8.01. I don't have any problems with these version at the moment. However, this version generates some filles in directory called when I'm working in schematic or pcb, in general, when the project is opened: ~Name.kicad_pcb.lck ~Name.kicad_sch.lck https://preview.redd.it/pmjgj1qblnzc1.png?width=784&format=png&auto=webp&s=a39f9b8ba9ed3438ab37afd3069200651b366148 I've been worked with GitHub for a long time and I don't know if these files are critical to the functionality of the project. When I do "F > R > R" I end up with the right pins on the left and vice versa. submitted by /u/VirusModulePointer [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I am new to KiCad. Please see below, its a simple lm317 circuit, i dont understand what this error even means here. Pin 1 is connected to GND. https://preview.redd.it/l1zbcumf29zc1.png?width=1452&format=png&auto=webp&s=f734c3a2d7d88d04ee0a2a5fa5efbe3fd24927da submitted by /u/Low-Travel-1421 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How do you connect two adjacent pads with one trace? I'm trying to route two USB-C connector pins to a GND trace but one of them causes a right angle - how should I approach these?

Polarised capacitors - JLCPCB

Is it just me, or are there no electrolytic capacitors available as basic or extended+ parts (ie no additional fee) in JLCPCB. Are they not common in modern boards? I only have a few needed and am only doing a very small run, but confused by this. T submitted by /u/waxnwire [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Finding the right pin header

Hi One of my EasyEDA projects uses a two pin connector (1888687) with a 5.08mm pitch. The footprint is actually for a screw terminal but that didn't matter as I didn't bother with the 3D view. However, I'm now learning to use KiCad and would like to have what is effectivity a three pin header with the middle pin removed from the schematic and footprint. I can see Conn_01x02_Pin but the pins need to be twice the distance apart I can also see Conn_01x03_Pin which has the two end pins in the correct places but with a spare pin in the middle. Does the proper part exist for KiCad ? Thanks submitt ..read more
