Despite roughly 50 shots on goal, Minutewomen came up short 2-1
The Massachusetts women’s hockey team entered its senior day game with a large crowd, fill the building which drew a high momentum in the game which the Minutewomen (15-4, American Collegiate Hockey Association) seemed to feed off of as the game continued.
It was the University of Rhode Island’s goaltender, Madeline Ashenfelter, that really posed a challenge for UMass. Leaving the first period, it was 13-5 shots on goal in favor of the Minutewomen, but they were yet to get one past e ..read more

Anaheim With a Strong First Period:
It was apparent that captain Troy Terry didn’t want to waste any time establishing a lead for the Anaheim Ducks. Taking the path in front of the net, he got his stick on the shot by teammate, Hampus Lindholm, to deflect the puck right over Vancouver goaltender, Thatcher Demko, establishing a 1-0 lead 57 seconds into the game.

Coming back from missing out on eleven games, Mathew Barzal really made his presence known out on the ice. Some believed that he would either have a slow start or would need some time to get back into the swing of things, but that was not the case for him at all.
At 12:35 into the first, Barzal got the first goal of the game by receiving the feed from Josh Bailey then shooting the puck in top corner on Buffalo goaltender Malcolm Subban. Throughout the first especially, Barzal was all over the puck getting shot after shot on net. He had a close chance earlier in the first on t ..read more

In their opening game in the IIHF World Juniors Tournament, the reigning champions Team USA came out hard against Team Slovakia to grab a 2-0 lead exiting the first.
Forward Matt Knies was the first to put Team USA on the board, taking the one-timer off of a feed from Logan Cooley that slipped behind Team SVK goaltender Simon Latkoczy. Just a couple minutes later, Mackie Samoskevich followed this up by shooting the puck in top corner putting Team USA up by two.

If you don’t know who Trevor Zegras is and how insane of a hockey player he is, well you’re about to. Time and time again he steps out onto the ice and becomes this amazing play-maker; doing the unexpected. It may not always produce something for him or his team, but the attempts are definitely worth their tries. It also just goes to show that if he’s doing this now so early in his NHL career, what could be expected to come from the twenty year old as time goes on.
Last night against the Buffalo Sabres it appeared as if Zegras was going ..read more

The Islanders were yet again without key players in their lineup. Kieffer Bellows, Josh Bailey, Andy Greene, Ross Johnston, Adam Pelech, Anders Lee, and most recently Zdeno Chara were put on the COVID Protocol List. Both Ryan Pulock and Brock Nelson were out due to lower body injuries as well.
Without such players, the Isles struggled to hold their own last night against the New York Rangers falling 4-1. Even when presented with six power play opportunities, the Islanders did not have enough behind them to overcome the blueshirt ..read more

In hopes of making a series of firsts last night, first UBS home game, first goal in the new arena, and first win in the establishment, the Isles were only fortunate at obtaining the first two. They had setbacks with the fact that many of their top players such as Captain Anders Lee, Josh Bailey, and Anthony Beauvillier to name a few, were out due to COVID protocol. That being said, New York still held their own until the ending of the game.
Forward Brock Nelson not only secured the first ever goal for the Islanders in UBS Arena, but secured the first two. Each of his goals p ..read more

The New York Islanders faced a tough matchup against the New Jersey Devils Thursday night that was only worse for wear coming off a 5-2 loss against the Minnesota Wild Sunday night.
Goaltender Ilya Sorokin stayed strong between the pipes especially in the beginning periods of the game. At 8:52 in the first, New Jerseys Dawson Mercer broke through Isles defensive pairing of Andy Greene and Ryan Pulock and made a run for the net. Taking the shot down low and to the right of Sorokin, he got his pad out to deny the breakaway chance. This was monu ..read more

After sweeping the Merrimack Warriors last weekend, the Minutemen faced their first true test in the Hockey East as they suited up for a home-and-home against the then #7-ranked Providence Friars. The Friars entered the weekend atop the Hockey East, riding their usual potent offense as well as their surprising defense which has been their Achilles’ heel in years past.
The Friday night game at Mullins was a defensive slugfest, with only one total goal scored. The Minutemen began with the game with a high amount of energy on both ends, outsho ..read more

It is safe to say that sometimes when you watch a team, some players blend in with the speed of the game. This is not the case with Massachusetts defenseman Scott Morrow – and I mean this is a good way. Focusing on this weekend alone against Providence, he was a huge factor in their winning performances with scoring the only (and game winning) goal in Friday night’s matchup then gaining the fourth goal in Saturday’s game to run the score up even more for the Minutemen.
Morrow continues to throw up points and show his value to the team in each game tha ..read more
