To that end, below you will find all of the information you’ll need to apply for your camper(s) for summer 2023. Dear Friends, We hope you’re enjoying today’s beautiful weather, and that our campers are doing great! We’re reaching out to let you know our plans regarding mixed/all gender groups for the 2023 camp season. First off, a record number of families completed the 2022 survey, and we thank you for taking the time to let us know your thoughts. What we learned from your feedback is that there is enough interest to move forward with offering mixed/all gender groups next summer, for those who want them. This is certainly a big shift from the traditional single gender groupings we’ve always offered, an ..read more

We are two days away from the start of camp, and we couldn’t be more excited! As we begin our last days of training with our unbelievable staff, there is no doubt in our minds that this will be “a summer as it should be” – and a return to some of our favorite activities! During each day of training, opportunities for new and returning staff members to meet have led to moments of great laughter and bonding, not too dissimilar to what we see between campers every day. We always spend time walking through the daily schedule, so that counselors can familiarize themselves with where they’ll need t ..read more

Life As It Should Be

In a recent conversation with a fellow camp director friend, we got to talking about how camps have the potential to be “prototypes” for an ideal future. When you think about it, camp is a place where, (in Sewataro’s case), a large group of people come together, and in the absence of cell phones, social media, and even mirrors, get to be the most authentic versions of themselves. Camp is a place where taking risks in a safe, supportive environment is encouraged…and even cheered on. It’s a place where we get to come together at the end of each day, to sing songs, and celebrate successes, togeth ..read more

Final Recap of Summer 2021

Dear Friends, Today is such a bittersweet day! As we reflect on the past eight weeks, we are filled with so much gratitude for a terrific summer with our campers and staff, and also a bit melancholy that our time together has come to a close. We live all year for these two months, and we love our Sewataro family! Very soon the grounds will quiet, the animals will resume their “regularly scheduled” lives, and we will begin planning “summer as it should be” 2022. It is our sincerest hope to run our “normal” (i.e. pre-Covid) program in its entirety next summer, and no matter what next year holds ..read more

Week Seven Recap

Hello and Happy Friday, Friends! It’s hard to believe that Week 7 – the penultimate week of the camp season – is in the books. It was hot, but the campers were cool, thanks to our dedicated and conscientious counselors, who made sure everyone was hydrated and happy. The one and only Nurse Gail made an appearance at Opening Exercises on Thursday morning, urging everyone to drink lots of water, to take it “low and slow,” and to go through the Camper Car Wash “early and often.” It was also S’mores Week, (a Sewataro favorite!), and as one friend pointed out, “the heat wave makes the chocolate even ..read more

Week 6/Olympic Recap

Dear Friends, Camp Sewataro is steeped in tradition, and one of our very favorites is Olympics Week. To say campers and staff were “into it” would be an understatement! It’s been amazing to watch groups coming together, in a sea of red, yellow, and green, and their sheer determination to get those Olympic points through sportsmanship, safety, and of course, SPIRIT! Even Thursday’s “liquid sunshine” couldn’t dampen the energy, and we are very grateful to have such a dedicated staff who show up each and every day, ready to help campers have the time of their lives. These are the most precious of ..read more

Week Five Recap and Olympic Teams Announcement (7/30/21)

Hello and happy Friday, Friends! The energy around camp this week has been electric – it’s amazing what a little (or actually a lot) of sunshine can do! This week we welcomed our 2.3 and 4.3 campers, and in no time they became part of the family. One of the most rewarding parts of our jobs is witnessing so many “firsts” at camp: Catching that first fish, building a fire for the first time with group mates at Campcraft, reaching the top of the climbing tower (and ringing the bell for the first time), or in Amy’s case, receiving her first Sewataro Cannon. ;) We’d be remiss not to mention our inc ..read more
