Need some help on engine build please

I just bought a Pontiac 400 for $250. It looks like a 73-74 engine, mainly because of the 4x heads on it. It’s a 2 barrel engine, so I’m assuming the smaller valves? I’m going for a thumpy well running 400, nothing performance oriented, I just want it to all work well together. My question is, with a Crower 60916 cam, corresponding springs and lifters, and balanced stock internals, would these heads be worth keeping or trashing? I’ll be changing the intake, ignition, and exhaust parts as well. Thanks for the help! submitted by /u/Hungry-Office4988 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

54 Chieftain Update: Road Trip

A lot has changed, but to give a brief idea, this car went from just running to truly roadworthy in a matter of months. New tires, paint, seats, lighting, and thensome. After driving her for 200+ miles without even having to open the hood, it's time to take her out on the open road for that Route 66 rundown. Her favorite speed is 55 to 60 miles an hour. Stays cool, low noise, and just keeps chugging at about 17mpg? Doesn't cost as much to drive as expected, but the tank is kinda small tbh. She almost accelerates as good as regular traffic, although I avoid cluttered highways when I can. T ..read more

Firebird 4th Gen V6 as a good first car?

Ok first off I know that it may not be the smartest decision of a first car, but honestly with the car market right now this isn't even bad compared to what I have been seeing. In my area car market is really not good and the only options I really have is maybe some old Tahoes or if im lucky a 1st Gen CRV but nothing really catches my eye. While scrolling through good old facebook marketplace I decided to look up some firebirds getting nostalgic about my dads old 3rd gen but I learned that the 4th gen firebird is going for less than most other cars and with way less miles (at like 70-110k). Where to find hood scoops?

I got off work today and I was going to put in some new refrigerant. When I was about to open the hood I noticed the driver side hood scoop had a crack in it from the front to the top. It was clean so I believe it was heat related since I never noticed it in the morning. Is there any way I can get a reliable set of two of them so I can ensure they last long? And has anyone tested aftermarket hood scoops and seen the quality show yet? Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/HeronActive995 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
