I got the Muncie 4 speed On the bench. Took the cover off, looked pretty good . Watched one of Paul's videos to make sure i put it back together right. I watched him spinning the trans by hand so i tried that so i could check for chipped teeth. I can't spin it, it will rock back and forth a tiny bit. Put in reverse and it spins EASY! Took it out of reverse, won't spin. I think i have it in second gear. 3rd and 4th are in neutral. It spins in neutral also. Any ideas? Thanks, LET ..read more

65 GTO Convertible top header pins
GTO Forum

I had to replace my rusted out header with a repop which must be a '66 as it does not have the holes for the centering pins. The new top has been down for a few years and doesn't want to come all the way forward and down to lock. The upper corner weather strips are 3/4s of an inch from mating. Can I assume that it needs time to stretch back out and do I really need the pins? Thanks ..read more

'67 GTO Pulley alignment issue, Power steering/ alternator
GTO Forum

1967 GTO using the stock power steering pump/pulley and stock alternator pulley. The power steering pulley is very slightly rubbing the alternator belt. They are both mounted using the stock aluminum block spacer which bolts to the block and bracket. If the power steering pump could be moved and 1/4" or so forward of its current location it would resolve the issue. Or perhaps just the pulley on the pump could be moved forward might also work. Thoughts and recommendations ..read more

Re; 1965 modified 389 GTO coupe with no AC: Just started breaking in a newly rebuild engine(68,000 miles) and now the temp goes from 165-180 when I slow down for town driving. It's fairly consistent at 60 mph in 55 degree weather in Minnesota at 165 degrees with 180 degree thermostat. It has run consistently for 4 yrs at 180 before the rebuild. I got out the air bubbles 2x with a coolant funnel device. I ran it for 5 minutes after the last bubbles appeared. I seems odd that the new... coolant temp up & down ..read more

Out of state purchase/taxes?

I live in the glorious state of Illinois. If I were to buy a 55 year old car from a dealer in Iowa, would I still have to pay sales tax on it? And if so, to the Iowa dealer, or to the DMV in Illinois when I go to transfer the title? Also, is it typical sales tax based on the purchase price of the vehicle? Such as 7 % of purchase price? I remember years ago, it was a flat fee like $25 ..read more

Hi Everyone. My name is Greg and I am new to this forum. I am a big fan of the GTOs but am not really that knowledgeable about them. My dad has always loved the 66-67 GTOs with 67 being his favorite, plus he loves convertibles. In 1984, when I was 1 year old he drug home his dream car. The poor car had seen better days but it was a real 67 GTO convertible that only cost $100 and had a title. The car had seen its fair share of hardships before he bought it. Sometime it was involved is a... 67 GTO Convertible Revival ..read more
