Welcome to our weekly blog post. This week we have been learning all about Iran. It has been a special week and we have celebrated Nowruz which is the Iranian New Year. The children have been busy colouring flags to decorate the nursery. "We haven't seen a flag like this before." "Why are all the flags different?" We have had them displayed in the kitchen for everyone to see.   We learnt about the Haft-Seen Table which has seven items on it that all begin with the letter S. Each item symbolises something like health, beauty, new beginnings, growth and patience.   Apple (Seeb) symbo ..read more

What a busy, exciting and fun week.   On Monday we had a wonderful time making kites. We decided to go on an adventure and fly our kites so we headed over to the common. The grass on the common was soggy, squelchy and boggy but it didn’t stop us from having a great time running around. We also visited the playground where we explored all of the equipment. The slides, swings and roundabouts were firm favourites. Mrs Irwin is helping us to learn how to swing ourselves by moving our legs backwards and forwards on the swings.   When we got back to The Acorns Mrs Neve made some spirog ..read more

This week we are celebrating Greece. We made collages of the Greek National Flower and were surprised to find out that the flower used to grow at Westmeston - where our other nursery used to be. It is called Bears Breech. Perhaps you have it growing in your garden? We would love to see some photos. We had lots of fun in the garden and enjoyed playing music on our percussion instruments. Some of the instruments made very loud noises like thunder and others made soft sounds like rain. It was interesting to see the children experiment with the sounds they could make. The children did another ex ..read more

Welcome to our blog post. This week we have been learning about Greece. We have had lots of fun being creative this week. We painted and coloured the Greek flag. The children made a choice between paints or pencils to decorate their flag. “It’s only blue and white – that is 2 colours.” “We don’t need white cause the paper is white.” “It is a bit stripy.” We designed and decorated our own Greek vases after learning about them during our carpet time. The children used their fingers to print onto the vases, creating their own beautiful and bright vase pictures. We have been learning about colou ..read more

Bonjour ! It has been a busy week. We have been learning about France, celebrating World Book Day and have been crafting cards for Mother’s Day. The sun has been shining and we have enjoyed lots of time in the garden this week at both settings. It is so lovely to be able to be outside for longer periods of time and to feel the sunshine warming up. There is still plenty of mud around so wet weathers and wellies are still needed. The daffodils at Acorns 59 are in full bloom and the garden looks bright and beautiful. We have enjoyed learning about France – the children have been fascinated by ..read more

Hello and welcome to our blog post. We have had a wonderful week learning about Kenya with the help of Catherine. (Timothy’s Mummy) We have loved learning about the safari animals – the Big 5 and the Big 9. Did you know that there are no tigers in Africa? Catherine had printed off some amazing pictures for us to look at of the animals. We were able to name most of them and mimic their sound. Does anyone know what sound a giraffe makes? We made lions and giraffe pictures –  they have been displayed in the nursery all week for us to look at. To make the giraffes the children finger painte ..read more

Hello Everyone. Welcome to our blog post. We have had a wonderful week learning about Kenya. Catherine (Timothy's Mummy) has helped with this weeks menu and activity plan. We are very grateful. We have loved learning about all of the animals that live in Kenya. Our favourite animals are Elephants and Lions. We had safari animals in our tough tray - the teachers had set up an African Adventure tray for us. The children made Lion heads ... they spread paint over their paper and then once it had dried they snipped with scissors to fan the paper out. The added a face using sticky glue. The lions l ..read more
