This week we have been exploring nature. Understanding the World – The World (Birth to Five Matters) We have spent lots of time in the garden searching for signs that spring is on its way. We found snowdrops peeping up through the ground and our daffodils have grown taller – no flowers yet, but we check every day. We enjoyed bug hunts – searching for minibeasts under pots. We found woodlouse, worms, snails and centipedes. The children then painted insects – ladybirds, spiders, butterflies and bees. We will display some of the pictures in the library over the next few weeks. We created our v ..read more

Welcome to our weekly blog. This week the children have enjoyed learning about Scotland. Have you ever googled what the national animal of Scotland is ? It is a Unicorn ! Mrs Franks comes from Aberdeen (North East Scotland) and was excited to talk to the children about her home country. At the start of the week some children painted the Scottish flag. We used sponges and bright blue paint. The flags are on display within the nursery. We ate haggis, neeps and tatties for lunch on Wednesday – which went down really well. Some children even had seconds and thirds which surprised the teachers ..read more

What an amazing week ! Our project has been gardening and we have enjoyed spending lots of time in our own garden in Lindfield. It has been a hive of activity all week and we have been spending lots of time exploring ways to enhance our space for the children. We have so many lovely plants and flowers growing and this week we all helped to tend to them by watering. It was a hot week and we learnt that plants should be watered at the beginning or end of the day before the sun gets too strong. If you water your plants in the midday sun you could scorch the leaves. We enjoyed lots of water play t ..read more

This week we have been exploring the Ocean. We talked about the creatures that live in the Ocean, trips to the seaside, and the importance of keeping the Oceans healthy. The children suggested ways we could look after the Oceans by walking instead of driving, recycling and very importantly putting our rubbish in the bin. The children went on a rubbish hunt around the Westmeston Garden and during our Friday walk. They were fantastic at spotting even the tiniest speck of rubbish, the teachers then collected it and we put it safely in the rubbish bin. Well Done Acorns Team! The children have enj ..read more

Monday was Safari Day. The children worked hard in the morning to make binoculars and then in the afternoon, we went out on safari to try and spot some animals in the wild. What a wonderful week in Africa, a shame the weather wasn't as warm. The children started the week finding Africa on the map, we talked about Africa being a continent and quickly remembered the Continent song. We looked at the different countries within Africa including Kenya, South Africa and Botswana. We watched some videos and looked at pictures from Orla’s daddy. The children noticed differences between the African houses and people comparing them to here. They liked watching the people dancing and the Giraffes walking through the African bush. The children coloured the Kenyan flag. We ..read more

Welcome to our blog post. This week we explored Switzerland. We had such fun learning about the mountains, lakes, foods and traditions. Did you know that the flag is square and not rectangle? (Mrs Franks didn't know this until after our flag making activity - so please excuse the rectangular paper - every day is a learning day) We used red paint and a rolled up cloth to 'sponge' our paint. It was super messy and great fun. We sampled some scrumptious Swiss food this week. Fondue, Racklette and a Swiss style buffet. The children loved dipping their food into the melted cheese. The Potato an ..read more
