Hello and welcome to our blog post. We hope you enjoy reading about our week.   We have had a great week at The Acorns.   We have spent lots of time in the garden, enjoying the sunshine and dodging the showers. We have enjoyed many sports activities - races and obstacle courses which involved crawling, climbing, balancing, running, scooting, pushing & pulling things and filling cups with water. We had such an amazing time! We cheered for our friends and celebrated our achievements with stickers.   We decorated our picnic bags and got to make our own sandwiches f ..read more

Hello and welcome to our blog post. We hope you enjoy reading about our week at The Acorns. Mrs Neve brought in some very special things to show the children. A birds nest and a peacock butterfly. The children looked carefully at the birds nest and tried to work out what kind of bird it might belong too. "Its got feathers in it." "Birds live in it." "Its a little one." The children were fascinated to see it up close. Mrs Irwin had brought some peas and each child was given a pod. We opened up the pods, ate some and decided to plant some in our garden to see if we can grow our own pea ..read more

Welcome to our blog post. We hope you enjoy reading about our week.   This week we have been taking a closer look at the food we eat - talking about where it has come from, how it is grown and how far it has travelled. We have enjoyed watching as single ingredients are combined to produce new foods. The weather has been hot and we couldn't think of a better way to cool down than to make some home made lemonade and fruit smoothies. The lemonade didnt go down too well. "Its spicy!" "Ooooh I like it, kind of, I don't think i will drink it all." "Its making my tongue feel funny." For the s ..read more

Welcome to this week’s blog post   We hope you enjoy reading about our week.   This week we have combined the blogs from Acorns 25 and 59.   Our theme for the week has been vehicles and machinery – we have talked a lot about the vehicles used on farms and how crops are harvested using special tools and tractors. We also spoke about how the crops might travel across the world – perhaps on planes, boats and lorries. The children were interested in all sorts of vehicles so we also spoke about bikes, helicopters, diggers & trains. “Fire engines are red and goes Beep Beep!”&nb ..read more

Welcome to our blog post. We hope you enjoy reading about our week. On Monday we talked about where fruit grows - fruit trees, bushes and plants. We wondered if the children have any fruit growing in their gardens at home. We would love to hear about it The children were delighted to make some jam tarts using delicious strawberry jam that Mrs Neve had made for us.  The children made their own pastry which was a very sticky job – they rolled it flat using a rolling pin, cut it out and spooned in the jam. They were so excited to take their tarts home. The children enjoyed ..read more

Welcome to our blog post. This week we have been learning about the roots and shoots of our plants. Over the last few weeks we have planted many things – beans, sunflowers, courgettes, peas, ferns, flowers etc. We have enjoyed watching as the shoots begin to appear. We know that roots grow downwards and shoots grow up. Our courgette plant now has a bright flower which we were delighted to see - it must have grown during the half term. We added the next element to our art work – the shoots. The children decided how many shoots they wanted to paint. “I am four so I am going ..read more
