My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer today. It’s everywhere, spine, esophagus, both lungs, and his liver is riddled with it. I don’t know how the doctors missed it. About 3 weeks ago he was complaining that he felt like he was getting sick. Thought it was Covid. But he started sleeping more, then coughing up blood, then the pain started on his side, and then it was hard for him to walk and finally the hiccups started and he couldn’t keep anything down. The doctors ordered a CT and then a PET scan Friday. We got the results today. Doctor said there’s nothing that can be done. That tre ..read more

Mother in law cancer spread to vertebrae

Hello 1 year ago, my mother in law was diagnosed with stage 2 lung cancer ( she has smoked all her life since she was a teenager - she’s now 68). When they took her in for surgery they found out it was actually beginning stage 3. She went through chemo and said the doctos said she was “cancer free”. Her back was killing her at the beginning of this year and she just thought it was a result of not doing respiratory therapy but it never went away so they did a cat scam last week and they found out it was cancer. She had a biopsy today and the doctors told us she has stage 4 cancer on her spine ..read more

We are still awaiting biopsy results for my father but from my limited understanding stage is gleaned from PET scan reports. I am still parsing this information. Pulmonologist dropped a hint it is 99% cancer :-( What did this report help with then? submitted by /u/spotless-moonshine [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Reassurance for stage 3

It looks like my mother has stage 3 lung cancer. The biopsy hasn’t been done yet but she has a CT and PET. It seems to be stage IIIC. Everything I Google looks awful. Anyone with good stories? She’s not a smoker and is otherwise in very good health. She’s in her late 60s so this has been a huge shock. submitted by /u/Normal_Pangolin5756 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

New to the group and Reddit. Diagnosed stage 3 NSCLC yesterday. Oncologist said positive margins at vascular area. Scheduled to see radiation oncologist, surgeon for port placement. I guess I don’t know what to ask. Just looking for any kind of feedback before starting chemo and radiation. I’m 52m and quit smoking 5 years ago. Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. submitted by /u/MrCooper71 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How can chemo shrink some tumors while others continue to grow?

Hey y’all. My dad was diagnosed with stage four non-small cell lung cancer back in February. It’s been a tough few months. He had three rounds of chemo and then they did a follow-up scan last week. They told us that he had a mixed reaction to the chemo. While it seemed to shrink the tumors that were initially giving him pain (yay less pain!), it seems some smaller tumors appeared/grew a little bit (between 0.3 to 0.5 centimeters, not yay). Can anyone explain to me in simple terms why this occurs, or direct me to online resource to explain why that occurs? Why chemotherapy shrinks some tumors ..read more

Hi everyone, in response to my own post 15 days ago, today my mum died. She was in comfort , sedated in the last 24h. Yesterday still held my hand, today she didn’t. At the middle of the afternoon they called me from the hospital saying she had just died. I was able to race to the hospital and hug her and kiss her, although her body was lifeless already. I’m in despair. I cant just accept losing my mother in one month. I want her back ?? i want to go with her! submitted by /u/Ari-Hel [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
