Now the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. (2) “But not during the festival,” they said, “or the people may riot.”  ~Mark 14:1-2 ~~~ What is truth? (John 18:38) Is truth hiding the procedures and obstructing the due-process of an innocent man (Son of Man)?  Is truth conducting il-legal processes under guise of "legal", and under the cover of (literal and figurative) darkness so that the public neither knows or can be informed of the ..read more

Lord, you knew it all along... In the garden of Gethsemane, when your soul was overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death (Matthew 26:38), and you asked God, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me"... You knew it all along... and You (obediently) finished that plea with, "Yet not as I will, but as you will" (Matthew 26:39). Lord, You knew it all along.  ~~~ Lord, You knew it all along. You knew that Peter would deny you three times the night before you were crucified (“Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “this very night, bef ..read more

I hope that like the woman with the alabaster jar, we can pause for Jesus today.  We can adorn our Lord with our affections today.  We can stop worrying (or even considering) what others think of our devotion to Jesus, and we can just be devoted to Jesus today. While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.   (4) Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this was ..read more

A lot can happen in a week.  And a lot did happen in Jesus' last week (sometimes called "Passion Week" or "Holy Week"). On Sunday, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, being praised by the Jewish people while they worshiped Him as their Messiah. On Sunday evening, Jesus went to the the Temple, and drove out those who were dishonoring God within it's walls (Matthew 21:12-13). On Monday. he cursed the fig tree (Matthew 21:18-21 and Mark 11:12-14).  On Tuesday, Jesus was questioned about His authority (Matthew 21:23-27, Mark 11:27-33, Luke 20:1-8), He went back to the temple to t ..read more

God knows our day today.  He has laid our plans and orchestrated our outcomes. Inquire of Him.  Trust Him.  Believe Him.  Ask Him what's on tap today, for He has already plotted it out and planned it.  God assures us of this through His Word (and some of us need to hear today that He is in control and He will manage our day and all that we will face).  He will. ...all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.  ~Psalm 1Maps39:16 The Bible (God's Word) also gives us real-life examples of people wh ..read more

Jesus interceded for us and took-on (bore) our sins on the cross.   But before Jesus bore for us (over 700 years before He bore), the prophet Isaiah told people and prophisied that Jesus would do that for us.   The Bible (Old and New Testament) proves the Bible (Old and New Testament). Seven hundred years before Jesus "came on the scene", He was (of course) behind the scenes.  He and the Father were orchestrating the scene, the backdrop, the final curtain, and they had also already orchestrated the Easter morning encore performance of the ..read more

The tax man cometh, and we all know that.  For Americans, he comes around April 15th each year, but no matter what country you reside in, he comes all the same. Taxes were due one day when Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum.  Every male 20-years and older owed two-drachma (approximately two days wages), which went towards the upkeep of the Temple.  The rule was that priests and people associated with the Temple (doing the work of God) did not have to pay those taxes.   But although Jesus was God's Son, had performed miracles and spoke ..read more

Our oldest was into the Ripley's Believe It or Not books for a while, so we have a number of them on our bookshelf.  And if we are ever in a (tourist) city that hosts one of the Ripley's Believe It or Not museums, you better believe that we make time to meander through the lobby exhibits and read up on people like Robert Pershing Wadlow, world's tallest man at 8 ft. 11 inches (born in February, 1918), or J.T. Saylors (1930's) who could put his bottom lip up over his nose. But far more amazing than human oddities is the majesty, sovereignty, and power of our Lord ..read more

From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.  ~Matthew 16:21   ~~~ It doesn't have to be complicated, but we do have to accept it and understand it: Easter.   What Jesus suffered for us.  What He endured, allowed, and accepted. It doesn't have to be complicated, but we do have to accept it and understand it.   Jesus ..read more

The Bible speaks of our hope for today, because of our hope for one day in the future, when we will be saved and redeemed and justified by Jesus for all of the wrong done against Him...and against us as His children/His Believers/His followers.  But we also must be prepared for that day.   Have we turned from our sins, and are we intervening on behalf of Jesus today? And brace yourself: this (coming-Christ) is not a vision of the cross, where Jesus was a dutiful (sacrificial) lamb.  This is a vision of when Christ comes back to judge those who have stood agai ..read more
