Ok guys I am currently cycling a 10 gallon and I’ve decided on pea puffers. From what Google is saying I can keep 2-3 in a well planted 10 gallon. So I’d like to get 3 but if 2 is better somehow I’d like to know that too! The other thing I’m reading is they aren’t great swimmers and to use a sponge filter or something, idk why, but sponge filters imo don’t seem like they’d do that great of a job… I really don’t want one at all. What are my filter options? Would I even need to switch? I’ve... Read more ..read more

Would like all thoughts good and bad on this hob. I have had it with my Tidal 75. This will just be a backup for my 407. Mostly just course sponge and floss to polish no bio. I have read that if you keep your water level up it will self prime. Can anyone confirm? What about bypass nothing can be as bad as the Tidal Has anyone had to make a mod and if so why ..read more

My plants don't look healthy. But they don't look like any of the pictures online. There is no yellowing or pin holes or dark veins or whatever might indicate something specific. Some parts look healthy. Some parts have big chunks of black. It is a 10 gal tank with 3 brilliant rasboras ..read more

I am new to the hobby and I know I dove in too quickly. Trying to narrow down exactly what is going on because we’ve lost several fish at this point: I have a 20 gallon tank, it’s been running for about a month and a half now (I actually started with a 2 gallon and a glofish tetra from the advice of the pet store and quickly realized this wasn’t fair so we upgraded). In it are: 5 glofish tetras (started with 1 but read that they do best in groups) 5 danios (lost 3) 5 harlequin rasporas 2... Read more ..read more

Okay, I haven't been able to find anything about this anywhere online... I have 2 Black Moor Goldfish and an Oranda in a 90 Gallon Tank with 2 small Clown Plecos. Today my Goldfish started bullying the Pleco. What's makes it even more odd is that the Goldfish seem to be working as a group. Maybe I'm just too new to this, but that's unusual behavior isn't it? I mean.... correct me if I'm wrong, or if anyone has had anything similar happen. Anything is helpful ..read more

What are the challenges and limitations of "no fertilizer" planted tanks?
Aquarium Advice » Cichlid Discussion

I've heard a lot about people setting up aquaria to function as miniature ecosystems that can function with few artificial inputs like fertilizer. This naturalistic approach to fishkeeping appeals to me a lot more than relying on expensive products, frequent maintenance, and "artificial life support" more generally. That being said, I think most aquarists with planted tanks use some kind of chemical fertilizer rather than relying solely on their water chemistry and fish waste. That makes me...
