It seems like a fish (plants?) you introduced to the aquarium recently, was infected or carried this infection into your aquarium. It's tough to do, but maintaining a six week minimum quarantine period before introducing new, living things to your established aquarium is something you are going to want to consider in moving forward. And yes, it's possible you are dealing with a case of Ich, as well as that resistant Velvet. - Regardless, you need to decide on and maintain a treatment regimen for your fish. Evidence of visible improvement in a fish being treated - may only be just that. And wil ..read more

I would not do demasoni with afra...two species with blue barred fish. You could try Pseudotropheus cyaneorhabdos maingano for a similar color blue. However, if Fogulhund says those are borleyi...they are. Also you mentioned they have orange fins, which confirm the identification. You might be better with yellow labs. Skip the maingano if there is ANY chance those are borleyi. Statistics: Posted by DJRansome — Tue Sep 14, 2021 8:04 pm ..read more

When a fish cannot keep upright, it is often to late to save them. The red is also a sign of advanced illness, but neither of those tell us what he has. Which we need to know to know what medication to use. Please post the test results for pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Can you post a picture of the green patches? Yellow labs get dark pigment on their yellow parts, but maybe this is something different. Statistics: Posted by DJRansome — Tue Sep 14, 2021 8:00 pm ..read more

I have a 400 litre tank with an external filter with two yellow lab cichlids, a snail and a small catfish. All my water parameters are good and the tank has a heater and I feed my fish sinking cichlid balls once each day. One of my yellow labs started having buoyancy issues about four days ago. And then he sank to the bottom of the tank and started swimming upside down scraping his head against the gravel at the bottom. He seems very lethargic. He has no interest in food and doesn't move much. I've made him a floatation device that allows him to float near the middle of the tank so that he doe ..read more

South American Cichlids • Geo Tapajos schooling with Rams

I made a post a couple months ago about sexing Bolivian rams. The rams are doing great, still don’t know if they M/F but they haven’t bred yet or anything. About a month ago I picked up a Geophagus Tapajos, the last at the store, and we (the LFS owner and I) thought it would be interesting to see how it would interact with the rams (Mikrogeophagus + Geophagus). Interestingly the Geo almost acts like he’s a ram, and the rams have started sifting the sand a lot more since the addition of the Geo. Maybe picking up each other’s behavior? Anyway, has anyone experienced anything like this before ..read more

Acei and hara? Not likely as long as there are plenty of females for every male within each species group. It is my desire for a contrasting appearance that was an issue for me. I had both and ended up swapping out the acei for something else. Statistics: Posted by DJRansome — Tue Sep 14, 2021 3:53 pm ..read more
