When the Patriots signed Jacoby Brissett in mid-March, the widespread expectation for the veteran quarterback was to be a bridge starter in New England or help develop an incoming rookie quarterback.
Now that we know who Brissett will share a QB room with in Foxboro, Mass., it’s not unreasonable to think the 31-year-old could occupy both of those roles in 2024.
The Patriots used the third overall pick in last week’s NFL draft on Drake Maye, a talented but raw signal-caller who’s in line to be New England’s next franchise quarterback. Speaking at an event in Rhode Island on Wednesday, B ..read more

The New England Patriots only took one defensive player in the 2024 NFL Draft.
He might be able to serve in multiple roles, though.
Marcellas Dial was selected with the No. 180 pick Saturday, joining the Patriots after a standout career at the University of South Carolina. He was asked to describe his game in a media call shortly after being selected, and a few things stuck out.
“I’m a sticky corner in coverage. I’m able to run, compete and play with any receiver, any body type,” Dial said. “I’m very good at attacking whenever the ball is in the air. I can make plays on the ball. I kno ..read more

The Patriots’ second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft was met with quite a bit of criticism.
Thirty-four picks after New England selected Drake Maye, Eliot Wolf and company provided the incoming rookie quarterback with a new weapon in the form of Ja’Lynn Polk. Polk was very productive in his final season with Washington, but many NFL analysts — including ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. — thought the Patriots reached for the wide receiver.
Not everyone was down on New England taking Polk with the fifth pick of the second round, though. ESPN’s Field Yates loved the pick, so much so that he thought it was ..read more

The Patriots reportedly spoke about a potential first-round trade with the Minnesota Vikings and the Giants, a pair of teams that stood to improve at quarterback entering the 2024 NFL Draft.
Adam Schefter, however, has a hunch that New York wasn’t eyeing a signal-caller when it negotiated with New England.

The New England Patriots said prior to the NFL draft they were “open for business” when it came to trading the No. 3 overall pick.
The Patriots trading the pick would have shook up the first round, and New England reportedly had offers on the table for the selection. But all the Patriots did was listen to them.
The Patriots ended up not pulling the trigger on any trades and instead selected North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye. New England standing pat made things go status quo early in the first round — besides for the Atlanta Falcons picking Michael Penix Jr. — and had one team in p ..read more

Bill Belichick offered an honest assessment of Drake Maye after the New England Patriots selected the North Carolina quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The former Patriots head coach heaped praise on Maye but also noted the young signal-caller needs to improve his footwork and his ability to read defenses at the next level.
So, what did current New England head coach Jerod Mayo think of Belichick’s breakdown on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show Draft Spectacular.”
“Look, my thing with Drake, we understand the player on and off the field,” Mayo said Monday on WEEI ..read more

The New England Patriots might be thrilled about landing Drake Maye with the No. 3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
But the selection was the culmination of ample pre-draft homework, which included genuine interest in other high-end quarterback prospects, as well.
“Just through a lot of film study, a lot of interactions with these guys and their families and the people that are around them, we felt very comfortable (with the top three quarterbacks),” Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said Monday on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show.”
“We knew all along — I think you guys did; hopefully you did — that ..read more

Mounting chatter in the months leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft led you to believe the Patriots were seriously considering trading the No. 3 overall pick.
But as it turns out, the potential move was one New England didn’t explore very seriously.
The Patriots last Thursday kept their highest selection since 1993 and took quarterback Drake Maye, a talented signal-caller whom the franchise deemed their likely pick long before Day 1 of the draft. But before grabbing the North Carolina product, New England rejected reported offers from the Vikings and the Giants that both would’ve significa ..read more

Last year, the Patriots traded down and prevented the rival New York Jets from landing a player they wanted in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
On Thursday night, New England apparently was on the other end of divisional gamesmanship.
Not long before the Patriots selected Drake Maye with the third overall pick, head coach Jerod Mayo teased a potential trade that would give his team another first-round selection. A deal never came to pass, and New England waited until Day 2 of the draft to add support for Maye.
It wasn’t for a lack of trying, however. According to ESPN’s Mike Reis ..read more

The New England Patriots selected quarterback Drake Maye from North Carolina with the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
One quarterback was all New England needed, with Jacoby Brissett, Bailey Zappe and Nathan Rourke already with the franchise, right?
Not quite. The Patriots also selected Joe Milton III with the 193rd pick in the sixth round.
Maye didn’t seem remotely phased by the selection and, in fact, even sent his well wishes on social media.
