How to Ship Your Gun
Customers from all over the country ship their guns to us so we thought it would be helpful to write a blog that covers the best practices for packaging your gun for shipment.
In our experience, people often improperly package their guns for shipping, causing damage or resulting in the package being returned to the sender.
This blog focuses on how you should package your gun for shipping. We do not provide legal advice on shipping firearms. Please review ATF rules and carrier rules before shipping your gun.
However, we will recommend shipping your gun through UPS be ..read more

Last week we covered the best camouflage patterns for Cerakote in 2023. This week we are cover the most popular Cerakote colors. Check out the list below!
Black
Simple. Classic. Sleek. Black is a color that will never go out of style. It has always been and still is the most popular Cerakote color. In general, McClusky Arms Cerakote customers get something more interesting than black, but most other customers who get optic cuts or other slide machining get their gun repainted black. More specifically, they get Graphite Black. Cerakote’s Graphite Black (H-146) is a satin black that was c ..read more

#5 - Topo Cam
Though it’s more of a design than a camo pattern, Topo Cam still made the top 5 on our list.
The origins of Topo are hard to track down, but Topo Camo appears in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Perhaps it has become popular in the firearms industry since topographic maps are used by the military to plan for both battle and defense.
These maps use contour lines to represent elevations and landforms, and the pattern makes for a cool design.
Topo Cam has been around for a few years now but is still one of the most popular camo patterns in 2023.
#4 - Partizan

#5 - Gran Torino
Gran Torino is one of the movies that got me into guns. Though I wouldn’t really consider Gran Torino a “gun movie,” it features several iconic guns like the M1 Garand, M1911, Colt Python, MAC-10, and Uzi. That’s a power packed line up.
It also features the Remington 870, one of the best selling shotguns in history. But that’s a gun no movie could ever make me like.
#4 - Without Remorse
I know it doesn’t have a great storyline but Without Remorse is a great gun movie. And does anyone really watch a move like that for the storyline anyway?
Without Remorse features guns ..read more

This week, I’ve compiled a list of my must-have gunsmithing tools. I wish I had known about these sooner! Not only do these tools save me money, but they are the right ones for my job.
1. Fret Guitar Vise
I use this guitar vise for all kinds of projects. It has built in soft jaws and keeps my machinist vise free. And, the jaws pivot so they can hold any shape.
2. Knipex Pliers
These things have changed my life. I’ve started carrying them everywhere.
The Knipex pliers have a parallel jaw that is narrow enough to do anything.&nb ..read more

This is a gunsmith’s point of view in the AR vs AK debate. Off the shelf, which gun is a better battle rifle design? Which is better for practical use and long term self defense? I’ve tried to leave my personal opinion (and love for shooting AKs) out of this.
Accuracy
A $1,000 AR will be more accurate than a $1,000 AK.
AKs can be accurate. But it's cost prohibitive during the manufacturing process. AKs off the shelf are 2.5 to 5 MOA at 100 yards.
Compare that to a standard ARs which is usually 1 to 2 MOA at 100 yards.
From a manufacturing perspective, it’s much easier and affordable to ..read more

At McCluskey Arms, we machine our optic cuts with a CNC mill. But, when I first started McCluskey Arms, we were working out of our garage and used just a manual mill.
I’ve seen a lot of gunsmiths machine rectangular optic cuts and forego the machining required to fit the optic’s front radius. This blog will explain how gunsmiths can make a fixture and use a manual machine to make a perfect fitting optic cut for the front radius.
Tools needed Rotary Table
To machine the radius on your manual mill, you’ll need to use a rotary table bolted flat onto the mill. The rotary table should ..read more
