Anybody know if hostess cupcakes are safe or eat them regularly? I usually make everything from scratch but my son has been feeling bad about being left out with certain snacks that everyone else eats. The label has nothing with nuts but I’d like to be sure submitted by /u/Spare_Flatworm_7717 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Sudden allergy later in life?

I(28F) have been fine eating peanuts/tree nuts my whole life until a couple months ago. I was eating some trail mix and after a few bites I could barely breathe. I thought it was a fluke so I had some more the next day and it happened again. Forgot about it for a few days, then had half of a Nutty Bar and it happened again. I called my doctor and she made an appointment with an allergist for me on June 4th, and told me not to eat anything with “peanut” or “tree nut” on the label, including “may contain” and “processed in a facility”. I haven’t eaten anything with peanuts or tree nuts since an ..read more

Eczema post reaction

Hi everyone! My 9 month old daughter had an observed peanut butter feeding at the allergist last week and unfortunately she ended up breaking out in hives and being administered epi. Since then her eczema has been flaring more than normal, especially on her face. I am assuming it is related to the peanut reaction based on the timing but I’m just curious if anyone else has had this before. If so, how long did the eczema flare up last? Being new to the allergy world, it makes me so anxious because I keep looking at her and being like “Is she having a reaction???” submitted by /u/Sensitive-Ad95 ..read more

What to do when eating peanut

Hi all, I’m 21, m and have had a peanut allergy all my life, severe. I’d say I’ve had about 5 or so reactions throughout my life. Last year I travelled South east Asia, including Thailand, Cambodia, the Philippines etc. I only had a reaction to a lasagna of all things in the Philippines. I ate fairly risky foods, including pad Thai (without peanuts of course) etc, but with the confidence of telling staff about the allergy. I can’t say I didn’t eat every meal without anxiety, but i was never hungry. Anyway, often I would take excursions etc to remote areas where there was no hospital present ..read more

Fairly Urgent Advice: Food Challenge & Illness

Hey there, My 4-year-old daughter is scheduled for her first peanut food challenge on Monday (I'm writing this Thursday night). She has been treated as a severe allergy since 9 months old, with positive skin prick tests every year. This year, before beginning OIT, her allergist wanted her to do have blood work done, which showed fairly low positives - 0.49 for peanut component & 0.52 for peanut rAra-H2, prompting her allergist to want to do an oral challenge. Needless to say, we're all on pins-and-needles about this. Adding to the fun, my daughter has come down with a bit of a bug the las ..read more

My son(6) had peanut m&ms &’complained of a sore mouth which I put down to hurting his teeth as he doesn’t eat many sweets. Another few months later he had a Reece’s cup, he complained of severe stomach pain, went extremely extremely pallid/pale/grey& had a weird almost passing out but saying he was sleepy and couldn’t stay awake. After piriton liquid he picked up but was still pretty sore in the tummy, and a rash appeared on the upper and lower abdomen. I gave another dose of piriton and the rash disappeared. Hospital visit didn’t link the chocolate and reaction? Weird. I sent hi ..read more

Chamberlain coffee

Roommate bought some chamberlain coffee that has “notes of toasted peanut”, but only contains coffee beans & the website also says that it’s allergen-free/the taste is only from the way it’s roasted (and my roommate added it doesn’t taste like it at all). Has anyone tried this and had a reaction? submitted by /u/chlorinecaro [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
